In the 1970s, during the Pinochet dictatorship, Truus Kuijpers established the Las Palmas children's home in Santiago, Chile—a home for what she herself called "disposable children." Adoption requests poured in from childless couples across the Netherlands who had been waiting a long time. She quickly built a successful adoption network. But were all her practices actually legal?
