Nostalgic trip
Donnie Darko was a nostalgic film in 2001, set in 1988 with quintessential new wave tracks like the Killing Moon by Echo & the Bunnymen. Oh, I just now got that joke... bunny... men... hahaha. The film is doubly nostalgic now, for both the 80's and the film itself.
There is no woke. There was a flirtatious look from one girl towards another, but it's over in an instant.
I had a mind-blowing conversation with ChatGPT about whether the events in the film could make sense given its science fiction premises. It was a little like talking to the film's "Grandma Death" herself. Of course, ChatGPT has trained on dozens of reviews of the film, so it is not working from scratch.
It's a classic film, well worth watching. It is a mind trip.
