Starship Troopers + Aliens

This movie attempts to combine Starship Troopers and Aliens. I could also point to Star Trek, which has done variations of this story several times. The result is a devastating 3.6/10 on IMDB.

It's a B-movie with a tiny budget. Not sure why they thought this was a good idea, but I guess they were trying to cash in on the reputation of the first movie.

That said, it's not THAT bad. And I think it has aged fairly well. Without giving too much away, what I mean is that thanks to the Internet, the general population has learned about worms and fungi that can turn ants into "zombies". These "zombies" are under control of the parasites, which force them to propagate the species. Very vaguely, there is something a bit like that going on in the movie.

There is almost a lesbian scene, but it doesn't proceed past seductive flirting. Later, we learn the reason for it. (It was not sincere attraction.)

There's one token black soldier in the background in one scene, so no forced diversity.

One of the male leaders is a total weasel (maybe copying Aliens again) and the other is not much better, but there is a Rambo type hero to balance. Women are mostly strong, but pale in comparison to "Rambo". These are veterans of a long campaign against the bugs, and nothing seems forced there.

If you want to watch it, go for it. With low expectations, you may enjoy it. I have to give it a below average rating, though, so 2/5.
