Vivian, an emotionally alienated playwright, casts Anthony, an ennui-plagued womanizer desperate to win her affection, as the star of her upcoming play. As the production moves forward, their relationship on and off the stage is tested, forcing them to confront the truth of their very nature and state of perpetual unhappiness.
