A cringey movie that kicked off a great series
I've always thought the Stargate movie was meh, though the TV series Stargate SG-1 was great. I just rewatched the movie, and yeah, FYI it's still meh.
Perhaps the difference is that the movie takes itself seriously, which clashes with the silly content, whereas the TV series has a sense of humor.
There is no woke. The team that goes through the stargate is all male! Even SG-1 did not dare to do that. One of the main female characters is a gift to Daniel, so there is no Affirmative Action for women in this film.
There is a false religion, but it is shown as false. It is a standard science fiction trope, not an attack on Christianity.
