Searching

No one is lost without a trace.

After David Kim's 16-year-old daughter goes missing, a local investigation is opened and a detective is assigned to the case. But 37 hours later and without a single lead, David decides to search the one place no one has looked yet, where all secrets are kept today: his daughter's laptop.

Not woke, but keep searching

"Searching" features a modern approach to a missing person mystery. I noticed nothing woke.

Much of the screentime consists of looking at computer screens showing social apps. It is somewhat novel, but has been done before. It is done well here, but still it is annoying. In general, the film comes off a bit amateur.

Early on, I figured out pretty much what was going on. However, the director tosses in plenty of red herrings to try to throw you off the scent.

There seems to be nothing woke. The film centers around a Korean family (US born). Otherwise, it is a fairly white cast, considering it is set in Silicon Valley. There aren't even any gays or transgenders.

Overall, although not woke it is a bit pedestrian. Keep searching for something better.
