Quite a lot of the contestants have aboriginal blood, and even the ones who are only like 2% aboriginal make a big deal about it. Some are really immersed in that culture, while others seem like virtue-signallers or system grifters like Elizabeth Warren. To this American viewer it came off a bit warped.

The local regulations, perhaps a combination of Australian and tribal law, mean that they basically can't do anything. Non-lethal traps only. Fishing only while monitored. This might be good for saving platypuses, but it makes the show more of a boring starvation contest.

The original Alone is much better, with zero wokeness and more entertainment and education.
