Many on both sides dislike it, but maybe that means it's good?
This is a history-based story of Livia Drusilla, a super powerful Roman empress.
This show is hated by a lot of Redditors and other leftists, but mostly they are nitpicking on accents, use of the f-bomb (WTF, of course Romans swore), acting (which is excellent IMO), and whether this historical character was actually innocent of the acts of treachery claimed by historians and this show (ah, the real reason they hate it).
On the other side, some on the Right feel the show is woke, because Livia is such a bad ass and speaks disrespectfully to many men. The way I see it, she had to be a bad ass to even survive in that political environment - and she came to dominate it in actuality.
There is certainly casual sex and violence galore. There was a two-year gap after the first season, but I recall there was a homosexual character then. If you're bothered by typical shows and movies about Rome, then this will be no exception. There was a midget trans prostitute plus another trans prostitute in one brothel scene, which I judge to be overrepresentation, probably for an agenda rather than realism.
I get a bit lost in all the love triangles and court politics, so I'll deduct a point, but this is a pretty decent show.
