This is sort of a "search for Atlantis" type show. Sometimes, it can border on mindless filler where the viewer is led on a wild goose chase to nothing. However, often it has some substance and educates the viewer on history. Sometimes even new bits of history discovered by the show, which is basically its mission. Alas, it is very formulaic, down to the comedy bits that appear almost every episode, such as the travel-to-expedition-site-in-funky-vehicle and the host's omg-you-didn't-tell-me-we-were-going-into-a-dangerous-cave (but of course you did).
The host, Josh Gates, seems like a wonderful guy, and I mean that sincerely, but his "a priori" probability of being woke is very high, given that he lives in New York City, is Jewish, and works in the TV industry. And indeed, at the end of an episode he often tacks on a moral for an awkward, virtue signaling attempt. From my perspective, he's even on the wrong side of morality sometimes, which makes this extra cringe. Still, this leftist lens is mostly limited to the last 5 minutes of the episode, so I would call it still watchable.
