The Targaryen dynasty is at the absolute apex of its power, with more than 15 dragons under their yoke. Most empires crumble from such heights. In the case of the Targaryens, their slow fall begins when King Viserys breaks with a century of tradition by naming his daughter Rhaenyra heir to the Iron Throne. But when Viserys later fathers a son, the court is shocked when Rhaenyra retains her status as his heir, and seeds of division sow friction across the realm.

Passively Woke
I’d say it’s not blatantly trying to preach some kind of woke message. (Although, if you’ve heard anything from the director or producers, you might be lead to believe otherwise.)
It’s homosexuality character, is just kind of there for plot development. And, the three main women characters, while being very strong, I would not really call them feminists. They all have they’re own history and motivations, none of which are specifically to be “better” than their male counterparts. And all the men, are not portrayed as dumb, stupid, or incompetent.
While, you’re obviously intended to root for the characters whom one might consider to be more on the woke side, at the same time, they are also portrayed to be very flawed people. And, the “non-woke”characters also have their own good and flawed character traits.

Dialogues like this are present throughout the series playing the 'oppressor and oppressed' games along with the entire plot which is trash either way imo.

Viewers are split on whether this is super woke, mildly woke, or even, if you dare to venture into Reddit, homophobic.
I cut the show some slack, because the head writer, Ryan Condal, was responsible for the TV show Colony, which was basically a 1984 style warning against Globalism. That show featured complex and subtle storytelling, which I expect to find in House of the Dragon.
There is a homosexual couple introduced early on. This caused many conservatives to get upset. Promptly, one of the couple got his head bashed in. This caused all liberals on Reddit to chimp out. I will add one woke point here, only because it seems the homosexual arc will continue past season 1.
The platinum-haired black Valeryans raised some eyebrows, including my own. Knowing the show runner, I predict their hair will be revealed as wigs (within the story), in which case the Valeryans are "culturally appropriating" the Targaryens and all the criticisms about how silly they look fall on the Valeryans themselves. Nevertheless, my understanding is that Valeryans were described as very pale skinned in the book, so I will add a second woke point for the race swap.
There is incest, "of course", stemming from the books. No additional penalty, because it's not viewed from a positive lens.
Women traditionally not being allowed to rule... it's not like this wasn't the case in most of our history, and the show is clearly set in the equivalent of medieval times. In Game of Thrones, women proved to be some of the most cruel and insane leaders, and I expect we will see the same here. It's not a message that a woke writer or director would send, so no additional woke point here.
Everything in the show is a two-sided coin. This will not be a stupid woke agenda show. The show will include woke elements while simultaneously pointing to the flaws in that ideology.

This show is so woke they race swapped a whole family for the purpose of f@ck whites. Girl power promoted throughout. The worst thing though is the white dreadlocks wigs. By the gods, they look stupid. Anyone OK with that show has zero business talking about whats woke r not.
