Lost potential
Similar to "Expedition Unknown", this is a "search for Atlantis" type show containing a morsel of scientific meat wrapped in a bun of speculation. I find ancient archeology intriguing, but the host often leaps to conclusions, sensationalizing the content to cater to a cable TV audience.
Another flaw is that the focus tends to be on the host, Albert Lin. Albert is from California, and wants his feelings to take front and center. However, I don't recall anything overtly woke.
Despite these faults, Lin still manages to make or highlight small but significant archaeological discoveries, resulting in a slightly less mind numbing alternative to fictional programming. The best episodes are like "El Dorado", where he makes a new discovery without exaggerating it. The worst episodes are like "The Great Flood", where he tries to take credit for the work of others while making wild speculations of the implications. Overall, 3/5.
