In the first Avatar, the bad guys are men trying to pave the way for a mining project. The good guys are based on Native Americans defending their land. It's written by James Cameron, a super woke director, to convey his pantheism (Earth-worshipping) worldview. It's a lot like Dances with Wolves, where the main character "goes native" and joins them against his own people. Real life is not as simple as this narrative. In some situations, mining and oil projects help indigenous people with jobs and prosperity they'd not otherwise have. This one seems to be a continuation of the anti-colonial pantheist vision, which demonizes white men and glorifies natives.

Mixed review

Yes, this is very woke. The lead villain is (of course) a patriotic straight white man and his fans are clearly based on Trump voters -- but also a very clever and well-done show, despite that. I had to overlook the woke b.s. to be able to enjoy this show. The Season 3 finale was really disappointing. I don't plan to keep watching it after that. I have mixed feelings about this show. It was entertaining but at the same time, I would not recommend it to anyone.

A lot of lesbians and race stuff

If you want to see a tv show about ugly lesbians hurting one another, this is the one.

Not woke

One of the old Western tv shows of the 1950s. The opposite of woke. About real men and women.

incrementally woke

It got increasingly woke over the years, seemingly influenced by BLM and GLAAD (the LBGTQ agenda). The storylines are sometimes preposterous when the villains are caricatures of what Leftists imagine "fascists" to be. The old Law & Order was good though.

Obviously woke-free

Pretty much everything from the 1950s was. The woke mind virus is a product of cultural Marxism, which was theorized in the 1950s, picked up steam in the 60s and 70s, but took another 50 years to mature into full-blown Leftism taking over all our major institutions and destroying the West from within. The tragedy is the West is the best civilization in human history hands down. One way it's being destroyed is through entertainment Mark Dice has a book on this called Hollywood Propaganda.

Woke-free

The folks in this show remind me of Southern Democrats of the early 20th century. The actor who played Grandpa (Will Geer) was in real life a gay Communist but I don't recall that coming through in the show. It was good family entertainment.

Is it woke or does it make fun of wokeness?

That is the question. I think it makes fun of wokeness far more than not. It does so quite well too. No one is spared, ultimately. The only problem it has is that it doesn't cover the things that really need satire, such as medical tyranny -- or did they do that? I know they skewered transgenderism -- which was good. Someone needed to.

The wokeness is there but hard to pin down because it's satire

It's about an annoying secular Jewish man and those he angers - which is about everyone with his bad behaviour (that's the running gag). There are woke elements in the show but there is also satire of these elements, so I can't say it's a woke show but nor can I say it's woke-free. It's politically incorrect in the extreme and even vulgar at times. It's Jewish humour like the Cohen Bros' film A Serious Man or Wood Allen's films.

Definitely woke

Set in Toronto in the late 19th century, it strains credulity to show a female physician and a black female medical assistant. And the physician demonstrates a lot of modern values. She seems like a feminist in fact. The first female physician in the USA was in 1848, so it did happen but must have been very rare. The show would have been more plausible had they stuck to the murder mystery protagonist, Murdoch, and not diverted the show with his feminist wife. That being said, it's not a bad show. There is some humour in it as well. It's a Canadian production. Former Canadian PM Stephen Harper even made a guest appearance on it once.

p.s. I am now reading the other reviews, about the increasing LBGTQ agenda on the show. I never watched it that far. Disappointing to hear of this.
