This one is an enigma. It's hard to rate.
This movie is about politics. The protagonist is an Independent with good intentions. He's trying to be the next mayor of Los Angeles. A kidnapper goes after his son. His convictions get put to the test. Any explanation would be a spoiler. He's in a mixed-race marriage. That's an element in the story. He refuses to hire an illegal because it would be a bad example to set as a law-abiding mayoral candidate. The majority of this movie's worth is in the epilogue. The kidnapping is resolved. The secrets come out. The election is over. The spin is on.
It's hard to rate this one because it defines political corruption without bringing any polarizing issues into focus. It doesn't seem to have a red/blue agenda. It seems to be a statement on the cesspool that is politics. It's not a particularly enjoyable movie. It is thought-provoking.
I look forward to other reviews. This one is complex.
