Folk Horror? More Like Woke Horror.

This was terrible preachy woke garbage. An isolated community run by a religious pastor. The entire premise is an oppressed woman rises up against the evil patriarchy and kills all the men. Really. All the men are violent, abusive and evil and all the women are good, victims and abused. Even the closeted gay character is bad because he's hiding his true self. The acting is actually not that bad and the FX are decent enough. There's even some beautiful scenery and wonderful cinematography in certain shots. However pretty much all the shots with actual actors in them look terrible. It's like it was all done by someone walking around shooting it on their phone camera, I'm not sure what it is but it just looks fake and off. The creature as well looks terrible and is hidden most of the time by fast cuts and weird high contrast lighting making it look like just a black shadow.

Well that was a disappointment. A 70's horror film with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing should of been at least worth a watch. While the acting is indeed pretty good that's about all it has going for it. Most of the movie takes place on a train and it is a whole lot of nothing. There is very little actual horror, and the FX are lackluster to say the least, mostly consisting of white contact lenses and some blood around the eyes. Even the monster is very clearly just a poorly done suit. One laughably poor scene has a character very slowly and lightly tap a heavy duty chain and padlock with an axe only to blow it apart almost instantly. Oh well at least it wasn't woke.

This exact movie has been done many times before. A group of criminals hides out in a small house in the middle of nowhere after a job gone bad. They slowly succumb to paranoia and turn on each other. All the clichés are present in both characters and story. The acting and writing is fine, there's just nothing original here. Even the attempt to put a surprise twist on the end has been used too often in other movies. It's all just so dull. There's also the issue that for some reason it's shot very dark and with very little lighting, even in the middle of the day, I realize it supposed to serve a purpose but it gets to be a bit much after a while. The only thing that could be woke is the token black character but given the situation it's not unlikely. I was starting to get bored and not paying full attention after about 45 to 50 minutes so it's possible I missed something.

I found this on a list of best overlooked horror from the 70's. It has a high review score on IMDB and most reviews call it a great vampire movie. After watching it I have no idea why. It's very low budget, which is fine but there isn't much story and it is definitely not a vampire movie and it's barely even a horror movie. The whole story is this kid who thinks he's a vampire goes to live with his extended family who's uncle also thinks he's a vampire and believes he needs to save his soul then kill him. As far as I can tell though he's not, he's just a mentally ill serial killer who's uncle is crazy and reinforces his delusions. It's pretty slow moving with only a couple of stalking and kill scenes and none of it is scary. There are some decent blood FX for the 70's and there are some disturbing kills they are just very few. There is also weird scene transitions from color to black and white that appears to be his delusions of him in the 1922 Nosferatu film seemingly reinforcing that he's just crazy. It's still not the worst movie and it's somewhat watchable, just be prepared for a slower character study film and not full on vampire horror. Nothing woke.

I watched the first 2 episodes before calling it quits as this was cancelled after only 1 season only. It's pretty much an all female cast but given the story is a ten year reunion at a Catholic all girls school it makes sense so not going to ding it for that. There are some feminist comments and while I don't remember anything being said in the 2 episodes there
is a strong suspicion that at least 2 of the characters are lesbian, and I am guessing several others as well. There is also a heavy dose of DEI diversity casting in characters. This is supposed to be a comedy first and foremost with the apocalypse setting appearing to be a secondary only plot device to keep them all stuck in one place. As I said it's supposed to be a 10 year reunion making them in their late 20's but the writing and characterizations are firmly set in high school. Everybody
is annoying, unlikable, irrational and overly emotional. Nobody acts realistically for the situation they are supposed to be stuck in
and the all act like they are still in high school with petty stupid squabbles and instant mood swings if someone looks at them wrong.
Every single one of them is so stupid it's hard to believe anybody actually managed to graduate in the first place. All the humor is
of the annoying eye rolling characters screeching at each stuff so if you like that type of thing there's plenty here.

More Racist Woke Jordan Peele Garbage

I shouldn't be surprised really, Jordan Peele is the most racist critically celebrated producer of mediocrity and garbage since Spike Lee.
While he produces instead of directs this it's all still there. Mostly black cast who are all good intelligent people surrounded by terrible
evil white people. The entire premise of this movie is the exploitation of black athletes by the evil white people and this new upcoming
star black quarterback has to sell his soul to a demonic cult of all white rich people to be a star. He has to defeat the previous black
star player, who's sold his soul to the white cult. He then rejects the white cults offer and the movie ends with the black man slaughtering
all the white cult members clearly meant to be the good wholesome smart black man escaping the evil clutches of the white man taking advantage of and using him. I don't think it gets much woker than this racist garbage. I saw a lot of articles and reviews talking about the
great performance of the lead. I mean if spending most of the movie standing there looking straight ahead with no expression on your face is
impressive then sure. Wayans is a miscast as the former football great who seems to be intent on giving a performance bordering on comedic parody while the rest of the movie wants desperately to be artsy pretentious horror. Long lingering shots of nothing, or flashes of quick cut edits interspersed throughout the movie pretending it's deep and impactful. Just skip it like I should of, it's not worth wasting your time on.

What a surprisingly funny little movie. While it does take place around Christmas I would not call this a Christmas movie. Good acting and the jokes mostly land. There are a few cringe comedy moments and sometimes the Russ character can be a bit too over emotional but I think that's more the type of movie than a woke element. It gets a little sappy and corny in a couple of places but nothing too bad. I do think you need to be a dog person to really get all the jokes out of this movie, or at lease an animal person in general. The comedy is mostly clean and family friendly with a few little innuendo jokes that will most likely go over little kids heads. If you have watched any rom-coms at all then the story is the usual by the numbers cliché and you know what's going to happen anyway but that's kind of the point of these right? The only thing that might be considered woke is that her friend is black, his friend/co worker is black and their vet is black, this seems unlikely however it is set in Boston which has a higher than average black population. There's also the fact that none of their acting is bad and the characters didn't seem forced and race is never brought up or made an issue. I just can't see giving it a woke point over that.

Much like the first movie there is so much wasted potential here. The first half started out pretty good with decent writing and I thought
it might be an improvement and the director is getting better. Unfortunately the second half throws it out the window and takes a nosedive. The story is basic and the acting is all over the place, some of it is pretty good while others are embarrassingly bad. I don't really know if
I would call it woke or not, there is a lot of diversity casting but it all sort of makes sense within the location and story. The exception might
be the female poc detective casting and her bad acting. The action scenes are decent if uninspired and nothing you haven't seen before. The villain is one of the weakest most ineffectual threats you will see in an action movie and the writing in the second half in particular is abysmal. Spoilers follow.....The dialog and interaction at the hospital is laughably bad and this is another major hospital with no other staff or security other than the 3 characters in the story. There is absolutely zero reason or point in killing the nurse, it makes no sense. If you know the Mexican cartel is after you do you go to the shadiest back alley Mexican restaurant you can find for a meeting? The slow flashbacks of him and his wife talking to each other serves no purpose other
than to pad out the already short runtime and slow the movie down to a crawl. There is an accurate representation of the typical lying propaganda media calling him a white supremacist racist who's randomly killing minorities and they conveniently have the actual camera footage shot that was used in the actual movie of a truck exploding. Couldn't even be bothered to shoot a separate angle and call it cell phone footage. Let's talk about the ridiculous villain who's
supposed to be this cartel crime boss that everyone is afraid of and so terrifying. Except he's not, at all. He spends the entire movie sitting in a dark room in front of a wall of computer screens without a shirt on threatening people on cell phones with a cheap Walmart voice changer and they all do whatever he says and are scared of him. Let's forget that he never actually follows through on any of his threats, or really does anything for that matter. My 4lb Chihuahua is more threatening
than this clown. He finally crawls out of his parents basement at the end of the movie and perfectly snipes a handgun on the ground spinning it into a drain grate in 1 shot but than can't hit 2 people out in the open with over a dozen rounds. He then just blind fires like an idiot into a house while they hide behind a cheap Chinese dresser that rifle could of shredded through like confetti. He than comes bumbling into the house only to get instantly disarmed by a snow globe (that hurts just writing that sentence) and then dispatched without a fight. This is another one of those movies you watch only if your bored or as background noise. Like the first one it's somewhat watchable I guess as I made it all the way through but just barely.

Some things you just can't unsee. I don't know really who this garbage is for. The animation is like a 90's to early 2000's cartoon network show. The voice acting is ok i guess, but this is what happens when you let a bunch of sex crazed immature middle schoolers who think they are funny write a movie script. Nobody else will think this is funny. It's just a bunch of the dirties raunchiest toilet humor jokes you can thing of done for maximum shock value. Everything revolves around sex jokes. This could of been funny if it explored how dogs actually might think or communicate but that's not what this is, it's very human centric mentality but they just animated dogs instead. I don't think I laughed once in the entire movie and I actually managed to finish this skid mark of a movie, I just kept watching not believing it kept getting worse. It's not just the jokes either there is a disturbing amount of animated animal sex scenes and animated dog balls and a-holes. Up until close to the end of the movie I actually wouldn't say there is anything really woke,
then the dogs find a back alley sex club, with a intersex Doberman bouncer. Said Doberman gives a speech to a small confused male dog
that is very clearly meant to push the gay/trans agenda then the 2 proceed to have a long graphic oral sex scene. The voice of the Doberman is of course a they/them rainbow mafia activist. There is also a scene after that where the main characters female love interest is about to breed with another male dog so he jumps into the middle and presents his ass so the male dog has sex with him instead in yet another very long graphic male on male dog sex scene. Given these 2 graphic unnecessary scenes and the sort of cutesy style animation that could attract kids to such a sexually graphic movie I'm maxing out the woke score.

Hilarious! I've always had a special distain in my heart for humor of the lowest common denominator. Not always. As a middle schooler this stuff was genius.

Cringe comedy at it's worst. There is nothing funny in the 35 minutes I sat through. I actually felt embarrassed for the actors delivering these lines. The jokes are stale, corny and you can see most of them coming minutes before they are delivered. I don't know if the overacting and ham-fisted line delivery is directed to be that way or if the writing is just so bad it comes across as bad acting. There is far too much DEI in background characters for what is supposed to be a small redneck town. Even the token black character has an over the top redneck accent. The white mayor has a Philippine daughter who the white deputy is infatuated with. There is an entire conversation about being
tolerant of ethnic people, then they claim there are racists in the town. The black token makes a statement 'it's hard to be a black man around here.' I would guess the woke will get worse as it goes. All the signs are there.
