Pha-Q woke's Reviews
After seeing the trailer and reviews I had to give this a shot. I normally like these types of movies, a throwback to the weirdness of some of the 80's and 90's films. It's watchable I guess but not that good either. It's one of those movies where they just make everything as weird as possible just for the sake of being weird. The acting is fine but the CG is very inconsistent, notable the creature FX are pretty bad. The story is barebones and makes little sense, actually the whole movie is kind of silly and the final 30-40 minutes falls all the way into over the top comedy. This was originally written as a single episode of the short failed amazing stories revival from 2020 and never filmed. The director then turned it into this movie. I would say it would of worked much better as a shorter episode of an anthology series than what this turned out to be. I don't know how this is getting woke free ratings either, the minority overrepresentation is pretty heavy everywhere you look. There's the token butch female assassin and then the Ugandan born black female FBI agent is hilariously cringe levels of DEI casting.

A generic western that hits all the usual clichés. The acting is all over the place with some good and some pretty poor. The dialogue feels like
it's way off for the time period and everyone sounds way to modern. There's also the strange choice of casting a bunch of non American actor who all seem to keep their native accents or do a poor English one making this feel like a badly made foreign film pretending to be set in the U.S. Shot on location in Montanan the scenery and cinematography are wonderful. The writing isn't too bad but there are some problems like characters who have a clear line of fire and the element of surprise and still miss shots, there's a character towards the end that makes a really obviously dumb decision for no reason. Brosnan in particular seems unbelievable in the physical stunts and fights with much younger actors given he's in his 70's. There's some woke mixed in and of course Jackson's character says he was wrongfully sold as a slave by a white man. Given the time period it's possible but the way it's told seems like a pointless addition that does nothing for the story. His character brings up his race several times. There's also the lone good Indian female oddly played by a German born actress of Peruvian/Swiss/German decent with a way out of place accent for an American Indian. Not sure what they were thinking with that casting. The movie's not terrible and somewhat watchable specifically if you like westerns but there are much better out there.
Mild spoiler..
The family group that's one of the villains consists of a bunch of brothers and 1 sister that they treat badly. Guess which one turns out to be good
and takes revenge on her brothers for overlooking her.

The only thing woke is the DEI casting. Only 4 characters in the movie, 2 white males, 1 Asian male and 1 black female. Basically the entire movie
is 4 friends stuck in an endless loop driving in a car talking. That's pretty much it. Definitely not fantasy/horror/sci-fi as marketed. The acting is
ok but nothing special and it's a well made movie. It wants to be much more clever than it actually is but overall it's kind of boring and in the end pretty pointless. I get that it's an allegory for graduating college and getting thrust into the real world and the meaning of life, but it's all still
boring. I would give it a 2.5 but am rounding down to 2.
Edit..
Spoilers...
The more I think about it I'm upping my woke score. Given that this is basically their journey through life after college, the first one to 'give up' pretty early on is one of the white males who does so alone. Then the 2nd white male and black female agree to stop and get out together, this could be seen as pairing up and 'living their life out together' in other worlds the mixed race couple. The one who goes on to the very end and never stops is the Asian male. I may be reading into something that's not there but it does seem a little suspicious.

A sort of throwback to 90's 2000's road trip comedies. Unfortunately it's just not funny. I made it 45 minutes and gave up without a single laugh. These types of movies are always over the top and pushing the boundaries of plausibility but this one is just ridiculous.
The acting isn't very good despite having some capable comedic actors. It's extremely cliche and boring, then there's the usual woke garbage.
Large DEI overrepresentation, all the male characters are imcompenat idiot and the females are smart and capable. The lead male is an over
the top annoying whinny beta cuck. It could be worse but it's still not very watchable.

A cute little romcom from the early 2000's. More humorous than laugh out loud funny though there are a couple of those as well. Pretty typical of these types of movies. Good acting and some decent jokes and nothing woke. Good soundtrack as well. Worth a watch if you like romcoms.

Funny little indie comedy. More of a drama comedy I guess but pretty well done. Good acting and humor and some decent writing. The main male lead is a bit of a loser but it's the character and not a generalization of all male characters. There is a comment about white privilege but it seems to be more in the context of showing how brainwashed thinking like this is dangerous. The character that says it has problems and is in constant therapy and I don't think it was done in the context of being woke. It's one comment and I don't remember anything else woke. Recommended if you like more subtle indie comedy lite movies with some dysfunctional characters.

I've seen this before and not sure why I never rated it. Just a great movie all around. Nothing woke to complain about. The acting is great the
humor is spot on. Cage plays a fictional (sort of) version of himself and appears to have a lot of fun with it. Knowledge of movies in general
will help but I would say the more you know of Cage and his history of movies the more you will get out of this. Absolutely hilarious.

Disney has ruined Pixar. The only decent part of this movie is the animation. The overlying theme of the movie is humans in general are bad. All women are smarter and better than the males. Every single male in this is either bad or an incompetent moron. The lead is a terrible nasty selfish person who is pretty much a violent domestic terrorist. The voice acting is ok and as I said the animation is decent. The story and writing are terrible. Pixar used to make fun movies and yes there were things that were exaggerated but they generally weren't cringe way
out there ideas, however this is just stupid and dumb and nothing makes sense or is in any realm of plausibility. In the end the horrible terroristic lead gets her way and there are no consequences for her illegal violent behavior that caused untold amounts of damage and destruction and in real life would of killed animals and people not to mention burned down an entire forest. Unless you like brainwashing propaganda keep your kids far away from this nonsense.

A solid 80's slasher. There are some of the usual clichés that were everywhere in this genre in the 80's but overall the story is pretty good.
The acting is better than usual, the FX are incredible and some of the kills are very brutal. I watched the uncut version but there are several versions of this in various edits and some of them have a lot of the gore and blood fx cut out. Jason Alexander and Holly Hunter appear in very early roles here as well. Unlike a lot of these movies this one is never boring and the characters and interactions are actually well done. While it is unusual to have a woke score for movie like this there is something to point out. There are several male characters who are very aggressive toward some of the female characters and the lead male councilor does
nothing about it. This results in the lead female councilor several times going on a rant about 'you guys make me sick'. I may be reading into it given the time period but it does come off a little preachy and 'The Patriarchy'. I'm giving it a one for that but It might just be me. It's definitely not a focus of the movie and is overall a small thing. If you enjoy 80's horror or slashers this one is recommended.

Whoever did the musical score for this should be thrown off a cliff. This is one of the worst scores I've ever heard. Completely tonally incompatible to the type of movie this wants to be. It's so off-putting and is always present. I don't think there is a single scene without some kind of grating background music. The acting is ok by the 3 main leads but most of the others not so good, the police duo in particular are terrible. The fx are one of the few good things. The story is just completely implausible. Basically these 2 scam artists rent Airbnb's then pretend to be real estate agents and pretend to sell the house. There are so many things wrong with that idea. First of all if your renting an Airbnb then you have a rental account with your names and info, you would have a legal rental agreement. How are you getting away with scamming. They then just plant a sign out front that it's for sale. How exactly are they scamming people into giving them money without an actual sale happening? It's not listed anywhere for real other than a sign. They think they are going to pull this off by renting a house with visible cameras all over the inside. They just turn them all off, like the owner's not going to know. It's all so stupid. Then there's the woke, the 2 scammers are a lesbian couple who we are constantly reminded are lesbians. The lead black male is Djimon Hounsou a pretty well known actor so wouldn't call that DEI. However I believe every single person they scam is an idiot white male and one of them tries to rape one of the lesbians. One of the detectives is female. The black doctor has a painting of his late wife on the wall and of course she's white so we get the check the mixed race couple box as well. Overall pretty slow moving with a ridiculous story that barely watchable made worse with a truly abysmal musical score.
