Pha-Q woke's Reviews
Classic 80's slasher. The acting isn't the greatest, but if your a horror fan it is a lot of fun. Some pretty decent kills and if you find the uncut version there is some great blood and gore FX for the time, even if you can only find the heavily cut R version it's still better than average slasher for it's time. The story is nothing too original but it serves it's purpose.

Mission Improbable The Final Wokening
Finally got around to watching this. What happened to this franchise? I sat down to watch this nearly 3hr long bloated mess of a movie and made it to the 1 hour mark and had to stop. I tried again the next day and just couldn't take it so I skipped forward through the rest of it to see how it all ended. For a franchise known for it's big over the top action scenes there is surprisingly little action in this. The entire first 60-80 minutes is literally nothing but flashbacks to previous movies and exposition dumps of characters trying to explain this convoluted plot. The actual movie doesn't really start until around 80 minutes or so. There are plot holes galore and writing inconsistencies. Cruise is just looking way to old, bloated and badly botoxed to be believable in this role anymore. There are strange camera angles, jarring scene transitions and conversations from 2 scenes (sometimes one of them is a flashback) taking place at the same time cut together that are so confusing it's hard to follow. You could make a drinking game out of how many times they say 'The Entity'. Speaking of which who came up with that horrible name for an AI program? Then there is the woke. There are plenty of other reviews on here pointing it out, and it's all there. Way over the top DEI casting, all power and leadership positions are minorities and or female. The usual tiny females easily manhandling trained much larger men. There was at least one bulging steroided out he/she/it thing in one eye bleeding scene. White men are of course bad. If you must watch it you can pretty much skip the first hour or at least fast forward through most of it.

Based on a true story and from what little I could find seems to be fairly accurate. Takes place in 1969 and is about Audrey Evans who developed cancer research and co founded the Ronald McDonald house. The acting is pretty good and the everything looks like it's in the time period. The story is interesting and what she was able to accomplish is incredible. The character is unfortunately not portrayed in a very likable manner, though it may be true. She is very reckless, self centered and sometimes just annoying. Everything is always me, me, me and I should get whatever I want regardless of how it affects others or if it's even legal or ethical in some cases. The end results are a good thing but the way she went about it is terrible. At one point she literally cost other departments at the hospital roughly 650,000 in funding just so she could get 350,000 for herself. The description for the movie claims she fought sexism to accomplish what she did except there is no actual sexism on display other than that women couldn't get a mortgage without a man signing in 1969. All the men who are mad at her and dislike her not because she's a woman but because of the way she acts and her selfish do whatever I want nature. I originally was going to mention the large black representation as woke however a quick search shows the black population of Philadelphia where this took place in 1969 was actually 34% so maybe not unrealistic after all. I'm still giving it a woke score for pushing fake sexism even in just the description.

Nothing woke in this. Excellent HBO miniseries depicting soldiers in WWII in the Pacific. I'm no history expert so I can't speak to it's accuracy. Very dark, violent and graphic but realistic look at war, not for the squeamish. The only negative I can give this is the odd choice of Episode 3. The entire episode is spent on leave in Australia and while there is a few minor moments moments that affect some of the soldiers it generally comes across as out of place and almost pointless and entirely skippable. Otherwise I would say give this a watch if you can take the violence, blood and gore.

Pretty good horror action movie from 2012 but not without it's flaws. Half of the acting is good but there are some notable bad ones as well and there is some minor writing problems. There is buckets of blood and gore and all the FX are very well done. The story is good but I feel like I've seen something very similar to this before, though it's possible I might have actually just watched this already. While Evans is great in the role I feel like the villain is a little too invincible and able to pull off a bit too much. There is a very small amount of the girl power stuff in here but it's not too bad and I don't think it's worth giving it a woke score over. Surprised this never got a sequel as there is some potential to build on.

While I haven't read the book so I can't personally compare the 2 there are a good amount of articles and reviews out there saying this
is very different from the book. The acting is ok but everyone is unlikable or annoying. The plot makes little sense and spoilers follow.
Your wife is dying of cancer and wants to give all her money away so you just happen to find her exact lookalike twin down to height, mannerisms, speech and body size on Facebook. Your plan is to have her pose as your wife and sign something saying she is changing her mind. For some reason you decide to invite an investigative journalist onto the ship you are trying pull this off on. You put her up in a cabin accessible to anybody on the ship then are in said cabin coaching her without the door looked so anyone can just walk in and find you. As for woke there is DEI overrepresentation. One of the changes made in the movie is with the character Ben. I found 2 articles 1 saying he's white in the book and the other saying he's mixed race. Either way he is black here so we can get that important woke mixed race box checked. The other problem is in the book she is dating a different character and the Ben character is a background minor one. Here the boyfriend is erased and DEI Ben is now shoved into the story. There is also the laughable stick figure female head of security. All of the male characters are bad except for, you guessed it DEI Ben. As far as I can remember none of the female characters are portrayed as bad. I made it all the way through but it's a short movie and really not very good.

There's bad writing then there's this. I called it quits after 30 minutes so this is the review based on that. Basically a med students brother
is in a botched robbery and they need to sneak into the morgue to collect evidence to protect him. The acting is pretty poor by almost everyone. The exception to this is the mortician and the lead female. The FX are actually not too bad and the basic plot could of been serviceable if not for the just brain dead writing on display. So the robbery in question takes place with her brother as the getaway driver sitting in the parking lot in the car waiting for the other guy to come out and escape but without the car actually running. His partner is shot and they are stupid enough to have planned it all through text on their phones so his sister is going to help him break into the morgue to get the cell phone back. Never mind that the cell phone would of been evidence collected at the crime scene not sent to the morgue. They go to see a veterinarian who he gets illegal Adderall from. Let's ignore that vets don't and can't write Adderall prescriptions, it's not used on animals. Her plan is to use Propofol to make it look like she's' dead of overdose and get sent to the morgue. Propofol is used as an iv drip sedative that only works if there is a constant drip, once stopped you wake up in about 10-15 minutes so would never work. But of course it does. She gets into the morgue to find out the morgue attendant is selling organs illegally on the black market. So they are harvesting organs from bodies that have been dead at that point for hours. Sounds plausible. She finds her ex boyfriend who was shot and pronounced dead at the crime scene who is hooked up to an iv in the morgue for some reason and surprise he's actually alive and gets up and walks around. WHAT?? He was shot and lying dead at a crime scene sounded by police and medics than transported to the morgue how many hours late and just suddenly wakes up and grabs her arm? That was it for me. There had to be an actual effort to write something this stupid. As for woke there's a lot of DEI overrepresentation. The white female leads ex boyfriend is naturally black.

I have a weak spot for shark based movies and this was still a big disappointment. For fans of action war movies there is virtually none of that so despite the setting you will be let down. As a horror/shark movie however, well also a letdown. The movie starts with a group of recruits in
boot camp and these scenes for some reason they had them all acting like immature children. Actually the entire movie has them acting unrealistically and a lot of it is so silly it almost wants to be a comedy half the time. It's clear this was made on a very small budget, as all the night scenes are shot very dark and then the day scene conveniently has a thick dense fog bank roll in so you can't see anything. The shark while visually looking very well done they chose to do it with animatronics instead of CG. Normally I'm a fan of minimizing CG, however when doing something like a shark it just doesn't look good. It's painfully obvious it's not real in every shot as the shark is so slow and barely moves at all. There is a big over use of slow motion throughout the entire movie in general. Pretty much all the shark attack scenes are either done in slow motion or are plainly telegraphed and you can see them coming
far before it happens thereby nullifying any sort of scares or tension. They also decided to have the ships faulty air raid siren get stuck in the shark fin giving off a weird sort of screaming sound. This clearly supposed to be terrifying but just comes off as gimmicky and dumb. Now for the woke. The cast consists of a whole bunch of white male's and 1 aboriginal. You know where this is headed. Naturally the DEI is the main character and focus and the only one with any sort of backstory. He is smart, capable, good and all the white females love him. Race is naturally a part of the story with one of the white characters being a huge racist and hating him, and of course all the white characters seem to act like idiots or stupid children. There is another strange thing here that I wasn't going to mention under woke but it seems to be done on purpose so I think it might actually be. The very first scene of the shark
the DEI genius instantly says that it's a female because of it's size and the males don't get as big. This is based on him seeing only the head for about a second in the dark during an attack. All of them then always refer to the shark as 'she'. I may be wrong but it seemed like an odd unrealistic thing that nobody would care about in the moment and forced in just for some kind of gender nonsense.

Folk Horror? More Like Woke Horror.
This was terrible preachy woke garbage. An isolated community run by a religious pastor. The entire premise is an oppressed woman rises up against the evil patriarchy and kills all the men. Really. All the men are violent, abusive and evil and all the women are good, victims and abused. Even the closeted gay character is bad because he's hiding his true self. The acting is actually not that bad and the FX are decent enough. There's even some beautiful scenery and wonderful cinematography in certain shots. However pretty much all the shots with actual actors in them look terrible. It's like it was all done by someone walking around shooting it on their phone camera, I'm not sure what it is but it just looks fake and off. The creature as well looks terrible and is hidden most of the time by fast cuts and weird high contrast lighting making it look like just a black shadow.

Well that was a disappointment. A 70's horror film with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing should of been at least worth a watch. While the acting is indeed pretty good that's about all it has going for it. Most of the movie takes place on a train and it is a whole lot of nothing. There is very little actual horror, and the FX are lackluster to say the least, mostly consisting of white contact lenses and some blood around the eyes. Even the monster is very clearly just a poorly done suit. One laughably poor scene has a character very slowly and lightly tap a heavy duty chain and padlock with an axe only to blow it apart almost instantly. Oh well at least it wasn't woke.
