Typical BBC woke af.

Within the first five minutes of the series we start with poor poor POC being picked on by a drunk whitey, the phrase “toxic masculinity” and “women fighting back” thrown around unironically.

Thankfully, the story is lead by a “case” storyline which is in itself somewhat interesting. But they’re mostly involving emasculating characters and woke issues. Most of the characters are bossy, manipulating women, except for the lead professor in prison and the poor dude being kicked around by the bitches who surround him.

Although the story gets fascinating afterwards, the heavily unlikeable, chubby, rude bimbo reporter in question drops in later on, and is only enjoyable because you learn to root for her death as the story proceeds. She just never dies.

The theme song is great… until you’ve heard it repeated 15 times.

It had potential, but the BBC is really good at infusing so much woke into a program that it overwhelms the fun.
Nah.

I didn't detect any agenda.

Wokeness seems to be a subjective term. In my opinion, if there's no indication of agenda, I don't consider it woke. The opening scene definitely had a forced situation of "toxic masculinity." It as a depiction of a complete jerk getting what he deserves due to some quick thinking by the female characters. The plot tends to be on the somewhat unrealistic side considering the choices made by the main characters. It did, however, present some thought provoking scenarios. It seemed very Shakespearian to me. The connection between a prisoner in the US and a captive woman in the UK was actually kind of clever. In the same way that Michael Corleone, who was "outside the family business" became the ruthless Godfather, the main character encounters situations that turn him from a dedicated, faithful Vicar to a kidnapper. I really enjoyed the series. I'm looking forward to the next season.

Woke Is Abundant Here

Only made it through the first episode watching with family, but there is an opening dream sequence of a group of women standing up and saying “Me too!” to a drunk, sexually aggressive, white male on a train.

The antagonist is shamed by his wife before she dies and is also shamed in this manner by the shows protagonist.

There is a Harvey Weinstein reference coming from the antagonist as well (bahahahaha!)

There are many other films and shows with an intelligent antagonist that is detained facing off against a great protagonist (Silence Of The Lambs, Mindhunter, Under The Banner Of Heaven, etc.)

This isn’t it.

Typical wokeism.

Literally starts with bad man-hero woman. The first "case" is about a senator that had experiences with her secretary and other women 30 years ago, that still working for him. His wife visits a therapist after having sex with him, and the secretary pays the bill to the rapist instead of therapist.
Beth (the molested girl of first scene) is a "strong" annoying black "journalist" that is dumber than a rock and acts like a 15 yo intersectional alphabetic activist. Janice (the kidnapped and the hero woman of first scene) actually is a manipulative criminal psycopath ( Hare psycopathy checklist fits her perfectly). She causes all the drama by acting impulsively and thinking mistakenly that the Vicar or his son are paedos, and of course, she has to be a hero woman and go to tell the police immediately instead of calming down and listening any explanation.
Other aspects are the policewomen that visit the vicar, one is charcoal black an the other is literally bald, a stereotypical butch. Of course they do not trust a priest when he tells them that the paedo was other person, who committed suicide leaving a note. Ah, and one of the main protagonists that is in detah row is there... for brutally killing and beheading his wife! To sum up, a good narrative and story but there is a smell of rotting wokeism. Just breathe deep and accept it with ressignation.
