A few things to keep in mind before this season premieres in Jan 2024

The following only applies to season 4

The season is written and directed by Issa López, who is a bisexual woman and a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and representation in the media34.

The season explores the themes of identity, trauma, and belonging in relation to the LGBTQ+ community, especially in a remote and conservative environment like Alaska. The show also features some LGBTQ+ supporting characters, such as Carol (Jenna Kanell), a queer and gender non-conforming support group member, and Dr. Alice Walker (Fiona Shaw), a transgender psychologist1 .
The season also tackles the issue of violence and discrimination against LGBTQ+ people, especially Indigenous LGBTQ+ people, who face higher rates of hate crimes, sexual assault, and murder in Alaska and other parts of the US . The show aims to raise awareness and empathy for the struggles and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community in the Arctic.

A festival of intersectionality — Well made but miserable

Explores the challenges faced by women and LGBTQ people in a small conservative community. Could have been good (if you’re interested in that sort of thing). Instead it comes of as deeply anti-male and anti-white. All the usual tropes. Avoid.
