Nicely skewers the beliefs of woke people about black culture

This was well written and well acted. Yes, it’s about the issues that black people face and one of the main characters is gay and those are both things that would score high on the studio’s DEI requirements. BUT, mostly the film makes fun of what woke white people think about black people and how such people actually make life harder for the people they claim to be allied to.
That’s a noble mission in my book! So ON BALANCE, not woke for me.

The usual British TV bollocks

This is nicely produced and acted but apparently having the protagonist be an Asian man wasn’t diverse enough so that character has been split into a group of five people two women, a black guy, and two white guys. The women are constantly besting every guy in the show and we are constantly reminded of how brilliant they are. The white guys are cast as hopeless losers (sorry Samwell Tarley but true) who are lucky to be in the company of their better friends. Thank you British television.

A festival of intersectionality — Well made but miserable

Explores the challenges faced by women and LGBTQ people in a small conservative community. Could have been good (if you’re interested in that sort of thing). Instead it comes of as deeply anti-male and anti-white. All the usual tropes. Avoid.

Anti-men, anti-white people, even anti-human. Terrible. The plot is full of holes. There were lots of opportunities to say something interesting about conflict in a future powered by AI here. The writers didn’t seem to see any of them.

Best movie of the year.

Thoughtful. Honest. So great to see a film that is asking questions, not pushing an agenda AND they spent all the money on a great cast and a great script.

Well made war movie

Good film making. Very suspenseful. Top performances from the two main characters.

Deeply diverse casting. So any white guys are fools, a…holes, or bit parts. That said, the cast is very good and the script is well written except when it veers feminist. Gave up watching it in the end. (Sigh)

We know the drill. Every male character is mean, violent and / or stupid.

Mostly fashionable billionaire bashing

This is mostly fashionable billionaire bashing plus the apparently compulsory super-powerful female characters who win out over ineffectual men. Otherwise it’s well-acted, well-written, with some good comic set pieces.

Entertainment from start to finish!

Great fun. Lots of Bollywood madness, big song and dance numbers, crazy stunts etc. If you’re English you might have to get over all the English being pantomime villains but hey, it’s that sort of movie.
