Vjetr's Reviews
Horrible cast. Two nepotists and an Asian woman that's as convincing as a supercop as I am as ruler of entire galaxies. Besides, she is a terrible actress, full amateur.
Very DEI, quite gender-focused, in terms of men bad/dumb, women competent/confident. The usual feminist fantasies...
Unfunny, brainless.

An excellent obscure Australian psychological sci-fi horror film.
It has no leftist crap whatsoever. The only hint of it would be a very brief mention of Reagan and the 80s being part of the "decaying West", which I didn't even quite understand. It certainly had nothing to do with the plot, whatsoever.
Aside from that there is absolutely nothing, and this is coming from a person who notices every single damn detail.

The casual viewer might not notice this, but there are a few leftist things in this incredibly bad movie.
First of all, the main character is a tiny woman who girl-bosses her way through aliens like they were made out of butter. She kills a whole bunch of them in a variety of very fancy and impressive ways, which makes no sense at all.
Also, there is this thing about her being a murderer. She killed her friend at the age of 12, brutally and intentionally. Yet we are expected to feel sorry for this sociopath and to give her a chance at redemption, which is absolutely ridiculous. We know how much leftists love psychos and murderers. It's a very leftist thing.
Mind-bogglingly dumb film. I've seen 5000 movies and this one is one of the 50 most idiotic ones, easily. Most random "plot" imaginable. Nothing makes any sense. And it is boring most of the time.
The main actress being an unattractive nepo baby doesn't help either.

There is no political stuff here whatsoever, zero.
In fact, just imagine a Lovecraftian film that tried to push gender identity, climate change, and all the other bullshit. It would be hilarious, wouldn't it? It would be completely besides the point. It would totally crush any attempts at creating mood and trying to establish complex philosophical notions.
Which is just another reason to pursue more Lovecraftian films. Except, of course, if Spielberg or Guillermo del Toro did one. In that case, we might get something truly hilariously stupid.
The movie itself is fairly low-budget, and leaves a lot of questions unanswered, which is fair enough considering that it's a Lovecraftian film, and one that doesn't focus on the monster aspects of it as it does the more philosophical stuff. So it's a very ambitious film, but I don't think it succeeded as much as was intended. How could it? Still, it's decent.

All three female characters are innocent and/or victims. All the male characters are murderers except for one side character. Yana should have been involved in the plot but somehow she isn't.
Also the fact that the psychic Darcy mentions a widow that wanted to find out whether her husband was faithful while he was alive and she found out that he wasn't. Coz obviously all men are pigs and women are morally pure... in Liberal Disneyland Feminist Fantasia.
So all points to a very clear anti-male bias. Now, if this movie had been made 40 years ago, this could have been simply ignored as a coincidence. But we know that nowadays nothing's a coincidence in terms of movie propaganda. Scripts nowadays are literally written around agendas.
The movie itself is alright, but quite a few logic holes and absurdities. Nothing major by horror thriller standards though.

The evil senator in the film is a Republican whose agenda is to take care of illegal immigrants, close the border, and is against abortion. Naturally, immigrants don't get labeled illegal or legal because Democrats don't separate between the two, this issue being too confusing for them.
Of course, he never gets mentioned as a Republican, but it's very obvious.
The smart scientists are all either black or female, whereas the white males are all either evil or weak.
The film itself is extremely silly because it piles 50 million layers of mystery one atop another in the hope that hipsters will get hard-ons for it, when in fact nothing adds up in the end, or just very little. Maybe a fifth of the plot makes sense. Don't waste your time with this. Unless you're a fan of garbage like Primer.

DEI casting, especially silly given this is a Kiwi film that takes place in Kiwiland. I can't imagine that the number of black Africans living in New Zealand could be higher than a tiny fraction of one percent.
And the Zimbabwean character is described as a lion-killer! Talk about liberals using "racist stereotypes"...
Nothing else though.

Early anti-70s bias, otherwise nothing...
