Clumsy comedy

This film tries to be a 90's style romantic comedy, but the clumsy writing and direction result in cringe in place of jokes. And, despite the best efforts of the costume designer, Sidney Sweeney's breasts are insufficient as a floatation device to save this film from sinking like the Titanic.

Compounding the misery, I count 4 woke violations:

1. The film revolves around a lesbian wedding.
2. Sweeney's character lists her pronouns on a webform.
3. There are two interracial couples.
4. There is lesbian kissing, including in bed.

Is any of that so bad? Well, yes, the film's producers clearly have an agenda that they are pushing, and that is a problem. It is tiresome that so many films are like this, far out of proportion to reality.

Here's our in-your-face agenda!

I have retracted a bit of the hate from my original review. Aside from this film being an in-your-face liberal propaganda piece, it's kind of a cutesy "as expected" romantic comedy. In that sense, it's a fun watch. Previous review (updated):

"Lesbian-interracial couple marriage in Australia. And I so wanted to just sit and watch a silly romantic comedy with a hot looking woman. Sydney Sweeney isn't actually all that good in this movie, but she's sexy! (update: yeah, she's cute)

This film (update: This film's over the top inclusion and DEI brainwashing) makes me want to vomit. I try to not use the word, "Woke" on this board so much, since it's in the actual DNS name of the site. But that's what it is. Here's a couple other words: Hollywood swill (Update: But, still kind of a fun little RomCom).

I'm sure it'll appeal to the dimwit university programmed DEI robots who grew up in this time of asshats. This movie (Update: This movie's inclusionary vision) sucks.

Plot Loosely Held Together By DIE ("DEI") Goop

I had very high expectations for this film. Glen Powell is on my radar as a good up-and-coming actor, and Sweeney is hot.

Sadly, since I rate films based on whether or not I’d watch them again, this one departed the library just as quickly as I added it.

That’s because it's a DIE (“DEI”) addict's dream come true (for reasons mentioned in other reviews).

I looked forward to the scenes between Sweeney and Powell because I thought they had some chemistry - and because it meant I didn’t have to see any of the other hideous acting.

The dialogue is atrocious; far too much swearing for no real reason and delivered hastily.

The male lead, Ben, needed a friend who actually looked, dressed like, sounded like, and acted like an actual friend - or a wingman at the very least. Whatever the f**k his name is…Gata or something…was downright awful and should never act again. He had two facial expressions: stoned and wrinkled face. If I see his name on anything else, I certainly won’t be watching it. His character’s use of ebonics with Ben (Powell), who couldn’t even be made up to look ghetto, makes absolutely no sense. And Ben doesn’t even respond in kind. It makes you wonder how in the world they could ever become friends in the first place. They seemingly have nothing in common. If they do, establish that! But the writers don’t, thus zero reason and zero chemistry.

And I'm not sure what Australia had to do with this film, nor the fancy villa where most of the action takes place. But it seems like everyone in this film is rich beyond measure and for no apparent reason.

Just a downright awful film. Go back and watch the original Much Ado About Nothing with the star-studded cast of Denzel Washington, Keanu Reeves, Emma Thompson, Kate Beckinsale, and Kenneth Branagh. It’s in William Shakespeare’s - with whom for no good reason the woke have all kinds of issues with - original metre, and it won’t disappoint!

Cliche, Bland, Unfunny and Woke

Some DEI casting, multiple mixed race couples. A main storyline throughout is a mixed race lesbian couples wedding. Anti white racist comments from a black character. The acting is ok but this suffers the same fate as most modern comedies in that it is cliché and just no funny.
The writing is bland, the story has been done a million times before and there is nothing original here at all. The dialogu is not great
and humor all misses the mark. It's not really so much bad as it is just completely mediocre.

Disappointing

I have recently become a huge Glen Powell fan and I was so excited to watch a fun romcom. But the script is HORRIBLE. Absolutely horrible. I physically cringed multiple times and had to pause the movie to let the ick fade before starting it again. There's no way in the world I'll ever watch this movie again.

Lots of woke themes, but plenty of other people have touched on that already. At least nothing felt rude or hateful besides one T-shirt worn by one of the women which read "ego of a straight white male". Gross.
But for the most part everybody was treated the same, so I wasn't too annoyed.

If only the script had been passable... But it's one of the worst romcom scripts I've ever watched.
