Only watch if you enjoyed LOST before the last couple seasons...
It's one of those more questions than answers type shows like LOST was the first few seasons. I hope it doesn't drag on and we get the same type of terrible ending just to 'be done' with it. It's interesting enough to keep me wondering what will happen after each episode but unfortunately it has lesbian relationship at the end of season 1. It's not something that is harped on long with all the other crazy things going on, usually pretty easy to skip their scenes together and not miss much.
I didn't notice much else as far as 'Wokeness' goes but I think all races are represented well here and haven't noticed that being brought up as an issue or conflict in the show so far.

Intriguing in spite of itself
There's definitely some wokeness here although it's not so much in the diversity itself. Diversity is nothing new for several decades now.
But how intentional is it in the hiring of actors and how much does it really make a difference is the question..
The only way it might make any difference is that some of the characters fall flat and lack charisma and some of the general interactions between the actors lack chemistry. Were some hired for the wrong reason?
One unnecessary sub plot is a romantic triangle between the male Asian deputy and the female doc and her druggie girlfriend. There's enough stuff going on in the show without throwing this in the pile.
All that being said are that my favorite characters right now are the black sherriff ( Harold Perrineau..the biggest actor in the cast) and the asian american deputy.
Although all the characters aren't so likable the story itself is intriguing and keeps me wanting more..There's not a lot of scifi horror around these days We need this

Interesting premise, woke production
After watching the first two full seasons, I can say the series has a really interesting premise that can hook people who like this genre, but everything gets handled and resolved through a woke lens.
To be clear about the kind of wokeness we're talking about: the very first episode (honestly, the first 20 minutes) is the ultimate test of tolerance. Right from the start, you can see how they portray white men, people of color, homosexuality, and women in positions of power making all the big decisions.
In my case, the first time I tried watching it I couldn’t stand how woke it was and dropped it. What made me give it a second chance were some random clips I saw on social media and ads that looked pretty interesting.
So, after checking the comments here and already knowing it was woke, I decided to try it again more out of curiosity about the premise than anything else. Now that I’ve finished both seasons and even rewatched some episodes, I’m raising the bar for wokeness. Just so you get an idea: it’s a Canadian production but everything is tied to the United States, so that already tells you the flavor of wokeness you’re getting.
Now, is it entertaining?
Yeah, if you enjoyed the later seasons of The Walking Dead when it turned into a soap opera where they waste time talking about their feelings. Here it feels like the emotional scenes are overdone and unnecessary, even if the script tries to justify them.
And finally:
Does the wokeness ruin it? I think that’s where they’re gonna fuck it up. Honestly, this isn’t the first woke series I’ve started, but I usually end up dropping them because the political messaging ruins everything. In this case it’s different. What’s actually starting to hurt the story is how you can tell the writers are fighting with each other. They contradict themselves from one episode to the next, making some things feel stupid or pointless. And I’m not even talking about the woke stuff. The problem is that the show isn’t based on any book or existing material, so a lot of it feels like it was written “on the go.” That leaves you wondering: Are they gonna screw me over like they did with Lost, Game of Thrones, or those other series where you invest a ton of time only to get a shit ending? Or do they actually have a real plan from beginning to end?
P.S.:
A couple of warnings for those who, like me, are drawn to the premise and want to know if it’s actually worth watching.
1- For the purposes of this site, I’ll be upfront: it’s very woke. The male lead who plays the Sheriff (who’s actually a really good actor, and the acting in general is solid) ends up getting kinda sidelined or belittled by female characters. Even when it’s not super forced, his actions are often reinforced or validated by something a woman says → which doesn’t really reflect reality.
SPOILER ALERT:
2- From the very beginning there’s a Karen-type character with tomboy vibes who’s the head of a communist organization that’s keeping the town divided (or at least that’s what they make you believe in the first episode). By the middle of season 2, she fully turns into this matriarch who struts around like she’s got a massive dick swinging in every single scene.
SAFE TO READ:
3- Lastly, I did a bit of digging and it looks like the show is already confirmed to end with a 5th season. Whether it sticks the landing is far from guaranteed though it’s from the same producers as Lost, and nowadays all their projects are packed with militant activist types. So yeah, that’s something to keep in mind.
Hope this helps.
