Yes, woke. But still a masterpiece.
This film was intended to be a social commentary on the stigmatism and consequences of homosexuality way back at the height of the AIDS pandemic. In that sense, it deals with woke topics. But the whole film is about that, and you know what you're getting into when you press play on this, so it's not subversive or redundant the way wokeism is in modern films.
Classifies as woke, yes.
But worth it.

No woke, no woke, no woke, no woke, no woke, no woke...
This film is in the national registry as being a culturally significant film, so it's worth the view. Also, there's no woke in sight. Watch it once, and you'll feel you've watched it on repeat for years.

Not woke, but cringey
Though the film was made with complete innocence in mind, there are momentary scenes which feel awkward, like sex with a 13-year-old in an old man's body. While audiences laughed then, it's hard to laugh now that Hollywierd is rearing its pedo head.
But put all that aside, and view it in the context of the era in which it was made, and Big is just a Big, goofy flick. There's no woke in here.

Completely woke free
A charming story about a curmudgeon lured out from drudgery by a dream. No woke at all, no feminazism, no nudity, no sex, no politics, no social commentary other than the relatable situation of all the individually charming characters the story offers.
Entirely free of woke.

A far cry from the original
The original Japanese film was entirely woke-free and much better, so best not write it off because of this steaming pile of whatever. The original story is about breaking free from routine, but this one is about a high-powered and crafty feminazi wife who is outsmarting her cheating husband. The woke ruined the remake. Skip it and go see the original.

Underrated
No woke here, but best not see the next film, which does get woke-ish. Take it at face value and enjoy the realistic feel of the superheroes before they put on the spandex.
Woke free.

One of those artsy introspective flicks
The whole film is about frustration, and there is some feminist grouching from the lady protagonist. But it's hard to call it wokeness, since the dude protagonist is just as angsty.
Mildly woke-ish if only for the tone, but that's about it.

Back in the past, when woke was nope.
Not a shred of woke. Good fun all around. Even political jabs are funny. Makes you wish these guys were still making movies.
Oh yeah, they are... where are they...

Tornado fun!
No woke! Just Twisters! Yay, twisters!
This film was made before woke was mainstream, so no worries here. Enjoy the weather.

This shouldn't be woke
Yes, the theme is racism. But films that battle racism don't need to be woke, and this one is most certainly not. It's a great film about camaraderie and cooperation, and a look back at a part of history the younger generation won't remember (unless you grew up in South Africa). Worth the watch, and shouldn't be held back by a revisionist label of "woke," since it wasn't intended to be made that way.
