Super fun!!

Race and gender are never ONCE brought up.
The lead is an extremely intelligent woman, who is kind and genuine with the people around her.
The male lead is BUTCH and allowed to be so without condemnation.

Fantastic summer popcorn flick.

An absolute delight to watch.

Perfect summer popcorn flick!

I was very impressed with how good this was and how overall family friendly this ended up being. For a PG-13 movie to only have a handful of cuss words and not even a kissing scene I was pleasantly surprised. I think Hollywood may be waking up from the Woke fest nonsense they have been trying to cram down our throats the last few years. This movie is a testament that if you make a good clean entertaining movie with no climate change preaching or all girl power junk, the people will go and pay the money to see it in the theaters.

THIS IS NOT A WOKE FREE MOVIE

It's not a bad movie, it's not great either, but it has, I repeat, it has woke components that are subtly spread throughout the film; pitting socialist ideals against capitalism and disguising these messages through the use of classic folkloric elements of American culture trying to send the message that it's okay to do everything for love. But love does not pay for studies, not even for trained scientists, neither does it pay for the technological apparatus to be able to carry out the research that the storm chasers do in reality. In conclusion, good cinematographic scenes, mediocre story with high budget and ultra stereotyped characters. Period.

If you feel it, chase it!

"Twisters" is a classic Hollywood style popcorn movie. Wokeness is mostly avoided.

Mild SPOILERS follow.

The supporting cuck, Javi, has a crush on the lead woman, Kate, but she friend boxes him. If you have a hard time figuring out what race Javi is, it is because the actor is literally a mix of all races. That's fine, but if this sappy man-child had won the heart of the white leading lady over the white uber chad, then I would have thrown a woke flag on the play.

A review above notes that there is a pro-Socialist message. The tornado scientists and chasers are only possible due to either Socialism (Federal employment in the case of Kate), predatory Capitalism (Javi's team's investor who just wants good deals on land), or shlocky entertainment Capitalism (the chad's YouTube revenue and merchandising). The film portrays Capitalism in a negative light.

Furthermore, the film pushes a theme of "forget the money, we have to save the people!" When the main characters try to save people before a tornado hits, that is just stupid; the people who live in tornado alley damn well know what to do. It could be perceived as a Christian attitude, but it comes off as hippy-dippy.

However, without a racial or climate change component, I will shy away from calling this movie woke. One IMDB reviewer pans the movie in part because "There is zero mention of climate change and the human causes of more extreme weather." Heh.

Overall, it is a cute, entertaining movie, a throwback to 1990's summer blockbusters. The hippy vibe detracts slightly. I give it 3.5/5, rounded up to 4.

Is this the best we can hope for?

While this movie did not reference climate change, it did mention again and again the fact that the number of tornados has increased in the past few years. Also a plus was Glenn Powell's character, who was competent and charismatic.
That said, this is a movie of our time period. The female lead was a genius who knew how to control tornados and single handily saved the day at the end. I'm not saying that women can't be the hero, but in prior decades a male would have been in this role. Additionally, the romance or lack of it is also a sign of our times. The male lead chased after the female lead who remained indifferent for most of the film. It did seem that by the end that would end up together with him following her. I'd give this a 1.5 woke rating.
