Extremely funny, leans heavily on DEI

Each series, across all editions aired on their youtube channel, seemingly needs to have at least one contestant who's either of racial, sexual or national minority. Sometimes they'll even have disabled people compete, or someone on the autism spectrum.

Also both hosts of the original British series constantly play off an increasingly homoerotic, sado-masochistic relationship, despite both claiming to be heterosexual

And show is absolutely fantastic because of it! Bringing people of different backgrounds creates an incredible mix where they play off of eachother in ways that are certain to make you cry laughing. The tasks are clever and watching everyone struggle with them is a joy. Maybe one of the best television shows we've had, ever

Not as bad as I was expecting.

This movie reminded me of a mash up of Shallow Hal and The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It has all of the chaos and non-sequitor sort of humor that pops up in British comedies from time to time, and if you aren't a fan, you won't like this movie either. It doesn't make a lot of sense, but it also isn't trying to.

The CGI is actually ok and very colorful, which makes it sort of fun to watch.

Jack Black is Jack Black. He is the same sort of lead as he was in many of his other films, which is to say, he capitalizes on Stupid Humor, so I think that's where this movie was trying to go, rather than the woke mentality that white men are dumb.

That said, there are woke elements to the movie. There's a wannabe girl boss and an overweight black Mary-sue who is not only a successful real estate agent who moonlights as a lama farmer, but also somehow instantly an expert in all things minecraft, specifically at killing zombies? She's annoying, but fortunately she's really just a side character who mentors the wannabe girl boss.

Speaking of, the wannabe girl boss reminds me of real life women who think they can come in and host a meeting and somehow be totally in charge. The girl boss attempts to host a marketing meeting, but the movie kind of pokes fun at her, since the meeting is set up in the side of a warehouse and almost no one attends.

The lead character is an awkward boy who is an inventor. He seems like a reasonable character.

Jason Mamoa is unexpectedly funny, but just as over the top as Black.

Overall, I didn't care for the movie, but given it's similarities to Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, I can see why some people would find it amusing.

I did allow my son to watch it after I screened it, and he thought it was good. He noted some parts were "boring", specifically the girl boss girl bossing, and the parts of the movie that followed the Mary-sue. The movie is clearly intended for younger, grade school aged children.

It only took about 10 minutes to see how bad this was going to be and I still struggled along to the 40 minute mark. There is DEI way overrepresentation of minorities. Black, Asian, Spanish strong feminist women, this has at least one of each. The small Spanish female 'badass' was well on her way to full girlboss when I gave up. The acting isn't so much bad as the dialog and writing is awful. Nothing makes any sense within any coherent story narrative, characters just show up and we don't know who they are, things just happen that make no sense or are never explained. The whole thing feels like a heist movie parody. Everything is so over the top, silly and just ridiculous. As an example this is the first 10 minutes of the movie-Our group is in the middle of the heist and the movie is setting up the characters, then a car pulls up with a white ginger male, his Columbian wife and their mixed race daughter. The daughter says her dad works there so assuming an employee,
otherwise we have no idea who these people are. The father notices a car that's not supposed to be there and peeks in the back door and sees the robbery. He runs back to the car and tells his wife not to call the police, pulls out a gun and says he's going to rob the thieves. What!? He then gets into a shootout with them grabs the money and tries to escape, with his wife and daughter in the car. Wahlberg's character is apparently superhuman as he has no problem keeping up with a speeding car on foot as it speeds away smashing through fences and onto an active horse racing track to get crashed into by some really bad CG horses. Wahlberg of course follows, keeping up easily. The car then speeding along the track has a horse run up and over the car (not jump, run) hood to trunk while not breaking any windows or denting the car. The car then still speeding along slams into a jockey rocketing him up and over the car just to jump up like nothing happened and get slammed into by a horse that for some reason is chasing the car. I'm not making this up I swear. Wahlberg meanwhile running along in front of hundreds of people and cameras all over the track with his mask pulled down shoots someone then proceeds to pull his mask up over his face. It's so absurdly stupid and dumb it feels like it could of been
a Monty Python movie. This is in the first 10 minutes remember and it doesn't get any better. With an hour and twenty minutes still to go I wasn't wasting any more of my time with this.

Great start, steady decline, then fell off

The acting was great. The concept was great. After the first couple of seasons, the writers seemed to lose direction. There were some things that just didn't make sense, such as the fat guy, who was in charge of the food, was persuaded to stop his secret bingeing. He then proceeded to destroy his food stash. They're marooned on an island. Destroy the food supply? That's just one example. The management of firearms got kind of weird.
The back-story style was great for character development. Tension was built with slowly unfolding mysteries. The chemistry between characters was very good.
This show is notoriously known for the dumpster fire of an ending. That rep is well earned. You can find social media threads dedicated to arguing about the entire series being nothing but a purgatory being lived out. I still don't get the ending. If you follow through, and think you've got it figured out, leave a comment. This site allows that now.

Gotta be a little woke to poke fun at everyone!

Best of it's genre. Love that it pokes fun at everyone. Irreverent, and it's a win just for that in this cancel heavy world.

First Season Awesome, next, not so much.

I wish they would have maintained the focus on Reacher, as in the first season, rather than expand it to his former team. The show is called "Reacher" for a reason. Some woke elements in later seasons.

Agreed. The first season followed Book One, The Killing Floor, better than most literary adaptations. After that, it lost the mojo.

First Season Only

Love this series so far. The blond daughter is vicious! I'm sure they'll introduce woke elements as the seasons progress. That's what happens in Hollywood, get popular, then they get woke. Sure hope not!

1st/2nd Season

Haven't watched past the first two seasons yet, but this is a gem of a comedy series. I loved the diversity training episode in the first season.

Not for me, but really great movie

After finishing the movie Love Birds, somehow I watched Bring Her Back with no intention of watching back-to-back Sally Hawkins films. I do like Sally Hawkins. She is awesome and does a top notch performance in this movie. Actually, it's well acted all around. Spooky and engaging story, despite being overtly mega-bloody at times with a little supernatural sprinkled in.

It seems the first film, "Talk To Me", which I didn't like because I know it was implausible and not very realistic- like, I'm kind of foggy on it, but I remember them wheeling a kid out of the hospital with no problems at all? And, the first film has an in-your-face transgender playing one part or another.

None of that in Bring Her Back. For me, I got a high cringe factor right in the middle of the film, feeling it was just a bit off. Andy was too trusting? Sally's character performs kind of amateur mind tricks on the kids? It just didn't resonate with me.

And the end, spoiler free, I didn't care for. The ending did, however, have one thing going for it: no ambiguity. Today, I think directors choose to leave endings ambiguous so as not to offend the young generation. How can you not like an ending if it's open to interpretation?

Bring Her Back is an excellent film. A little cringe for my taste and maybe a little too bloody. I wonder if it was CGI blood? Likely.
