A chick flick, but is that woke?
Made by women, for women, this film examines the tragic nature of the relationship between an unwanted child and his estranged mother.
With political tension on the rise regarding abortion and feminine roles, it may possibly be regarded as woke in retrospect, but at the time it was more an objective study and tragic story.
If you view it in the context of the year it was made in, it doesn't feel woke.

No real woke
Despite the cringey fate of its creators, the Matrix started out as a painfully 90's icon that had everyone walking around with black trenchcoats and pretending they were the first to do so.
No real woke. A couple feministy quips here and there, but this was before funny quips like that were standard fare, so they come across as endearing.
No woke to contend with.

Weren't they fun. Before woke became redundant, before the world was all about gaslighting and virtue-signalling, we had this kind of stuff. A chick flick, yes, and an annoying broody goth/emo/whatever you call it boy, but that's what teen angst is all about. Woke free.

A chick flick for the ages
Back when chick flicks were still marketed to chicks, this film was one of the best. A perspective on ladies' sports back when it was great, before it was infiltrated by Lia Thomases of the world. Only the very lightest of woke. Plenty of fun and a good slice of history.

Not as woke as you think
Okay, so there's the Plight of the Downtrodden Vagina. But she's no mary-sue. The depiction of her bossy position and its juxtaposition in the world of football makes for good drama that blots out any eye-rolling messages. More football than feminism. Worth the watch.

Still woke free
This is a pure story of friendship and overcoming hardship. You'd think there was an opportunity for lecturing and racism, but this film avoids all of that and works on love and humanity. A great film with no woke to contend with.

Before Spielberg went woke, he was a genius.
This was the film that made him; what used to be an iconic, family-friendly, well-rounded and creative director that the world looked forward to. There is not a hint of woke in the film, not even in the comical cross-dressing of an alien midget. Enjoy the bicycle flight.

Underrated
How the socialists fail to see themselves in the antagonists is a matter of mystery. Overall there is very little woke to be had, and all characters are welcome and interesting.
