Could they have picked a female lead less true to the novel?

One finds it hard to imagine the male lead focusing so intently on anyone so plain, in face and form, as she who was selected to play the role Anne Hathaway mastered in the 2011 version. After Episode One I'd had enough.

But Netflix sees as its duty the determined subjection of viewers to wokery. And an all-white cast apparently could not be tolerated.

Wut?

Not a comedy. Almost not sci-fi. It is more of an inner journey than external, like if 2001: A Space Odyssey were about one man's internal struggles instead of the destiny of Mankind. It is very art house, so not everyone's cup of tea, including mine.

The Indian at ground control seems DEI for the Czech Republic in the late 1970's(?), but it's also an alternate timeline in which they have discovered quantum-entangled instananeous communications at hundreds of millions of miles distance, so who knows? I will give it a single woke point.

Great at first. Somewhat predictable thereafter.

As with nearly everything the film industry produces, this popular series was adapted to promote Lefty views: including in this case the BBC's own hatred for Winston Churchill, hitherto a hero almost without equal.

But then there's also a hilariously unlikely black 'preacher' who pops up to talk sense to white, working-class mobsters. In 1920s England.

Entitled Feminist Ruins It

All the usual feminist garbage. A stupid amount of DEI hires and mixed race couples. All the men are stupid sexist and racist. The acting is ok and there are some actual funny parts but the lead character is just so annoying, entitled, and unlikable. She's supposed to be 34 but acts like an idiot early 20's moron and uses every stupid social media and leftist buzzword you can thing of. She's just so irritating and punchable It ruins the entire movie.

feminism detected

watched until 50% of the movie

feminist elements that i detected:

in the start of the movie the duo of friend cops is presented as incompetent witch gains them a demotion.

while working demoted a black woman continuously assaults the black cop while on a high speed chase ending with her kissing him in the end even after he informed her that he is married

the duo is capable of detecting one of the main bad guys with the help of a friend, the villain is able to escape

the friend that in the past movie appears just to be a agitated guy is presented as more feminine in this movie with brinks and etc.

the duo is forgiven by his boss without explanation and get re-promoted to what they were before(patriarchy representation most likely)

the duo gets separated and the white guy ends up working with a female cop the female cop since the beginning is not respected by both cops in the history, is said that they don't respect her because she is a cop of the cops, she also is able to defeat villains not by using her whits, gadgets and ability's, but by punching them in the face, like a real man would do.

White men bad. And stupid.

Barely made it through the first episode before bailing on UNFORGOTTEN. Women and minorities wear all of the 'white' hats in this police drama series; caucasian males of a certain age wear the dark ones.
Nor is Britain overwhelmingly white, if the BBC is to be believed.

Plot Loosely Held Together By DIE ("DEI") Goop

I had very high expectations for this film. Glen Powell is on my radar as a good up-and-coming actor, and Sweeney is hot.

Sadly, since I rate films based on whether or not I’d watch them again, this one departed the library just as quickly as I added it.

That’s because it's a DIE (“DEI”) addict's dream come true (for reasons mentioned in other reviews).

I looked forward to the scenes between Sweeney and Powell because I thought they had some chemistry - and because it meant I didn’t have to see any of the other hideous acting.

The dialogue is atrocious; far too much swearing for no real reason and delivered hastily.

The male lead, Ben, needed a friend who actually looked, dressed like, sounded like, and acted like an actual friend - or a wingman at the very least. Whatever the f**k his name is…Gata or something…was downright awful and should never act again. He had two facial expressions: stoned and wrinkled face. If I see his name on anything else, I certainly won’t be watching it. His character’s use of ebonics with Ben (Powell), who couldn’t even be made up to look ghetto, makes absolutely no sense. And Ben doesn’t even respond in kind. It makes you wonder how in the world they could ever become friends in the first place. They seemingly have nothing in common. If they do, establish that! But the writers don’t, thus zero reason and zero chemistry.

And I'm not sure what Australia had to do with this film, nor the fancy villa where most of the action takes place. But it seems like everyone in this film is rich beyond measure and for no apparent reason.

Just a downright awful film. Go back and watch the original Much Ado About Nothing with the star-studded cast of Denzel Washington, Keanu Reeves, Emma Thompson, Kate Beckinsale, and Kenneth Branagh. It’s in William Shakespeare’s - with whom for no good reason the woke have all kinds of issues with - original metre, and it won’t disappoint!

Interdimensional shift

The Shift is a stimulating exploration of the quantum multiverse and the Book of Job.

Some IMDB reviewers felt they got "bait-n-switched" from a sci-fi film to a religious sermon, but, despite the deus ex machina, I felt the movie stayed intact as science fiction. I'm not religious, and I am scientific. This film put my mind into overdrive, and perhaps I came out a better person.

IMDB gives it a 5.3 rating, yet 1/3 give it a 10/10. I understand that in theory to mitigate bots IMDB adjusts its ratings relative to the raw scores, 7.1 in this case, but I suspect in practice IMDB admins are commie assholes just like Reddit mods.

The cast is diverse, but it does not feel forced. Not woke.

‘DuckTales’ is an excellent series. In the first episode of the third season, one character is briefly shown to have two fathers, but aside from that it’s just pure fun and heartwarming.

Fun movie, minor issues

Watched this movie on VidAngel. Fun take on integrating a tough subject (dad’s death) with fantasy (dreams). Ends up with a cool redemptive element, and has several decent bouts of humor (like the dream police haven’t upgraded uniforms since the ‘70s and it shows hilariously). A few cuss words and comments about “I have women what else do I need” that we VidAngel’d out.

Can't say how much of an agenda Candy Land has...

The film is full of kind of anti-religion cultist people, and it has a cop-on-man relationship, but I'm not sure it has much of an agenda. It must get one star on the woke-o-meter, though, for both those reasons.

Overall, it's a fun movie. It's quite bloody. The plot is straightforward enough and I like the Olivia Luccardi a bunch. As a matter of fact, I was kind of cheering for her even though the other characters weren't really dislikeable either.

Slow, Dull and Boring.

Two mixed race couples and all men are useless or bad. Climate alarmism while not woke is political propaganda. The acting
decent but the writing and directing are terrible. This is another arthouse drama pretending to be a genre film. Painfully dull and boring. Long lingering shots of nothing. Weird cuts and edits. Everything is shot way to close up and the camera never pulls back or gives any wide shots so you can't see anything happening, it's all implied and just off screen. Unless you enjoy very, very slow moving movies with minimal story skip this one.
