Poe must be turning over in his grave

Couldn't get past minute 33 of the first episode. Diversity hires all the way through. Gay stuff up and down, including interracial gay stuff. Totally unbearable. Avoid at all cost. Will rate it as low as possible because this is not entertainment, it is indoctrination. I refuse to swallow that bullshit.

Wimpy

Alone UK is quite a bit wimpier than the original Alone. What I mean is the participants are not nearly as skilled as in the American show. Some have a lot of determination, though. This year (2023), both shows take place in roughly the same location, but the Brits seem to have started much earlier (for better weather) and finished in much less time.

Is there anything woke? I guess not. Just everything feels a bit... wimpy. What is Alone with only a hint of ice before the end?

Mantiss and Peggy Carter

Not exactly woke, but Briggs partner is a pure diversity hire. No woke themes or elements.

Skip Season 1 to enjoy probably the best British comedy in Seasons 1 through 4

This is a funny show and a funny show in the way where whilst most series decline in quality over time, this one improves. I'll be honest and say I couldn't stomach Season 1 but Seasons 2 to 4 are so much fun. The jokes are on point, the chemistry between the actors is great and it's evergreen as it doesn't use contemporary humor so you can watch it in 5-10-20 years and still laugh. There is also no woke agenda as it's an old series but considering the shite that comes out of BBC now, you wouldn't believe it's the same studio that created it and say current Doctor Who.

The best drama I've watched

This is genuinely one of the best TV series which I've had the pleasure to watch. Every episode is different, the characters are interesting and Hugh Laurie carries the whole series with great humor. It's basically Sherlock Holmes in a doctor's gown in the 21st century, it's awesome.

There is minor woke with one of the side characters where they make her a bisexual and you have some episodes forcing us to watch her and her gf and their relationship. It's short and obnoxious but out of 8 seasons, having a few episodes with woke is bearable. There is no gay stuff other than it and no victim politics, intersectionalism, patriarchy, women have it oh so bad or other crap the modern Left loves.

One of the best animations that can be enjoyed by adults too

I watched it when it aired about a decade if not more ago and had a blast. Recently rewatched it and it's even better with quite controversial themes like death of main characters that fly over the head of children but can be picked up by adults which really improves the quality.

There is a woke comment by one of the two creators where Velma was a lesbian, she just didn't show it which was during the BLM protests I think but that's just virtue signalling, there is no gay or other woke shit in the show. I don't want to spoil the series but neither of the girls the creator mentions are lesbians in the show, it's pure virtue signalling to appeal to his fellow woke colleagues in the entertainment industry so enjoy it.

Woke free for the majority of time and one of the best shows if it ended sooner

It has a good hook in E1 to get you to watch the rest of the series and the pacing is for the most part good. The first 6 seasons along with the banger of a soundtrack make it one of the best TV shows in memory.

It however drastically goes downhill in S7 and especially S8 which is sleep-inducing with the worst possible ending that makes 0 sense for the world and the events that took place the first 6 seasons which drags down the whole series. If it ended in S6 and HBO just said we ran out of material, that'd have been a decent ending but alas.

Wokeness - there is some gay stuff but it's also looked down upon in the world as was the case in Medival Ages so that's accurate and not too much of it. The ending has so much soy and the female Starks get such a good deal out of it that it makes the ending contrast too much with the world and how people operate in it. That is mostly just really bad writing with minor woke but it's mostly just the creators didn't know what to do with the ending. It was also made at the beginning of the woke era so it's safe for viewing and enjoy it if you give it a chance.

Recent yet woke-less and even terrific movie

Not a shimmer of woke despite being a recent movie. Terrific story too, got me nailed to my seat. Best I've seen in a long time, recommended to watch.

No Woke, Average Ending to an Average Trilogy.

No Woke. About on par with the other 2 with some questionable writing. The entire CIA story should have been cut out as it is unbelievable and badly written. Dakota Fanning is completely miscast as a CIA agent and never believable in the role. The villains are never really threatening. The entire ending sequence was one big anti-climactic nothing.

Implausible nonsense that could of been great.

1 unnecessary and out of place girl power scene with a bunch of kidnapped abused farm girls getting revenge on Nazis. No other woke. This could of been a great action film. Good acting and action scenes with a cliché story. Everything is so completely over the top ridiculous and unbelievable though as it ruins a decent movie. I just found myself laughing at the nonsense in every action scene instead of enjoying the movie. Too bad.

Proto-wokeness does not sink this mini-series

This is the 1985 TV mini-series that is just the famous 1981 movie with more scenes. The extra scenes give more of a sense of "months of boredom" in the saying about war, "months of boredom punctuated by moments of sheer terror". So, yes, it actually adds flavor to the movie and makes it better. On IMDB, this version scores an 8.8/10 versus 8.4/10 for the movie.

In one scene, one crewman taunts another for reading the Bible, while others do not intervene. During this time, only 1.5% of Germans were atheist or agnostic, so I question whether this is a rewriting of history for an anti-Christianity agenda. Later, the Christian is frantically praying while ignoring the guy's pleas to help in saving their butts from doom, so the guy smacks him upside the head. Again, it's tough to say if it's a proto-woke agenda at play, but at least they tied the first incident into the later plot. And admittedly, in Nazi Germany, there was some tension between the religion of the State (Nazism) versus Christianity.

Another possible bit of proto-wokeness is the nightclub scene at the start. The submariners are quite piggish towards the women working the joint. However, I judge this as plausibly realistic, as these are men who know they are very likely about to die. Still, I suspect the real reason is that the film creators did not want to be seen as glorifying Nazis, and this scene made the characters less likable. That's understandable.

So, I'll mark it as not-woke, and certainly it's a great mini-series.

Consistently entertaining

This film is unusual (in our current landscape) in its ability to remain entertaining to the end. It's kind of a mystery, thriller suspense with a splash of film noir, and while it may not win any awards, it manages to keep the audience invested without any agenda.
Well acted and no wokeness in sight.

Benicio del Toro is fantastic.
