While overall and compared to other modern movies its fine it still has flaws. The diversity is very low almost nonexistent. Wasn't really my type but for kids its alright

When men were men and women were Nancy Kovak

"Marooned" is a surprisingly great film that I hadn't heard about. This 1969 movie came just before the Moon landing. It has great special effects for the time, still mostly tolerable now. It has a moderate amount of "Hollywooding", not the extreme amount you get in more modern films like "Moonfall" or "Armageddon".

Gender roles are traditional. Yet, the characters are not unrealistic ideals but rather flawed in ways that makes us remember they are only human.

For "Star Trek" nerds, note that two of the three astronauts' wives appeared in episodes of the original series. Nancy Kovak played Nora in "A Private Little War" and Mariette Hartley played Zarabeth in "All Our Yesterdays".

The premise is that these astronauts are in space for a very long period as research/training for the impending interplanetary missions. Poignantly, these still haven't occurred in reality. The film explores the psychological effects of extended time in space and low oxygen levels, as their long mission becomes even longer than expected.

Give it a try. I think you can be forgiving of the primitive special effects, given the lack of wokeness.

So woke, I almost bolted

EVERY level-headed political and military leader in this movie is a minority, a woman, or both.
POTUS: black female
Commander of carrier task force: female
Submarine commander: black male.

All three of the above were reasoned, measured, and calm while EVERY white male advisor to the POTUS was a hot-headed buffoon.

The characters of the POTUS, the air craft carrier group commander, and the sub commander are featured /introduced in quick succession one third of the way in, which almost caused me to OD on wokeness and bolt.

Nothing woke. This is a low budget film with a very limited cast. The acting is pretty good and the atmosphere is great. There are some
very creepy moments and few jump scares. Most of the horror relies on building tension and genuinely unsettling scenes. The story is pretty good and the first hour is great. Unfortunately once the full story and motivations are revealed the last half hour falls apart and the writing takes a turn for the worse. Character motivations don't make sense or just don't seem to exist. It's an average horror movie that could of been a lot better if the final 30 minutes hadn't fallen apart
Spoilers.................................... Why when Yana finds all the photos, teeth and
blood vial inside the creepy statue does she just put everything back and act like it's no big deal and just goes to bed. Darcy just happens
to go upstairs and just happens to sit in front of a trap door. A trap door that is never shown or mentioned until that particular moment in the movie. A trap door that goes nowhere and serves no purpose other than a conveniently placed deathtrap.

woke and WEAK

"why are people calling it woke?"

really? the bigger question is why are people thinking it's not woke.

if you can't put on your They Live sunglasses then you shouldn't be in this website until you do some further research into what wokeness really is.

(credits to user Michaels for the "They Live" reference. and yes, go read his comment if you want a good education on what's woke in this movie.)

i'll only add one more thing:
the story itself is super weak and forgettable. the dino-fights are the only thing worth watching. and some decent cinematography during some horror sequences.
but the subplots and some action bits made it feel like a Mission Impossible Fallout wannabe, but with dinos and lazy writing.

owen, claire and ian are the standout performances here.

but WTF was that moment with ian unbuttoning his shirt, and then buttoning it back up... off the black lesbo's look? what even was the point of that scene? just another split second social commentary insert which holds no value in and of itself whatsoever.

but then again, neither does Hollywood these days.

"soft and witless" writers

"i'm not as soft and witless as your comment implies. let's go beefcake." --- that's exactly what a soft and witless hag who's never seen the outside of a science lab would say to an experienced mercenary and hunter.

this kind of pissant writing has lowkey been present since the first JP. looking at you Laura Dern. it's obvious who the real "sexists" are in these movies.

ironically enough, Amanda Kirby from JP3 --- who is unjustly overhated for very trivial reasons --- seems to be the ONLY character throughout the franchise who doesn't have a shred of "tough girl" tropes written in (claire a close second).

you can write a competent woman in a script without her being an insufferable bitch. learn a thing or two from the MISSION IMPOSSIBLE movies if you don't have a clue on how to do that.

but then again it's hollywood so being insufferable is more or less their thing.

Slop

I gave in to my youngest wanting to see that.

This movie lacks a script, a director, and maybe someone to red-light the project before this mess was made.

Giving it a 1 for a few jokes slipped under the radar.

Momoa does his best to save his character, but polishing a turd only gets one so far.
Black is, well, par for the course in this dog and one-trick pony show. Crude over-acting, stupid singing and awkward homosexual overtones. Pinnacle of humour.

Not rating wokeness too high, as there's no overt political agenda. Except the white girl-boss. And the black loud female. And ineffective, stupid males. White, obviously. Even Black.

All-in-all on par with the Hoskins Mario movie. Or Dacascos' Double Dragon. Or the later Mortal Kombat installments.
It's so bad, it should have been directed by Uwe Boll.

Is this really what passes for horror these days. What a slow boring slog of a movie. There are no scares at all. There is a presence floating
around a house watching a dysfunctional family and occasionally moving things around. Nothing happens. The acting is average to bad. There is no real story. The weird pov camera shots and movements aren't creepy or scary just gimmicky. While it's not overtly woke there is the must have
mixed race couple with the beta weak white husband and the aggressive nasty snarky Asian wife. Some other DEI background characters aside that's really it. The movie isn't even really bad it's just so pointless and boring.
