Throwback to the 80s

Creature feature as expected. Not a great movie, but hey, Cage fight.

Everybody is on the stupid spectrum so that the scenario can proceed, so, no preaching.

Unwoke, jerk-a-minute

2017-vintage, hilariously written abuse-a-minute fest, from Peter Farrelly ('Something About Mary', 'King Pin', 'Dumb & Dummer', 'Me Myself & Irene'; more recently 'Lucky Hank' (TV) & 'Green Book').

Sam Loudermilk (Ron Livingston) is a loud mouth, sharp-as-a-whip AA counselor/custodian/misanthrope, who's failing his way to surliness, one step at a time, trailing his shrinking circle of friends, and weekly AA group of broken folk, in his wake.

I'm midway through Season 2, and enjoying the heck out of it.

Woke-o-meter:negative numbers. This one's actually old-school _Politically Incorrect_. [lmao].

Solid period suspense/crazy/horror, prequal to 2022's 'X' (Mia Goth shifts to the old lady character, 'Pearl', doing her origin story; same farm setting, back in the day). Fairly limited gore - though there are more than a couple 'ouch' shots. Entertaining, and Mia chews *rafts* of scenery cranking up the "nuts". Woke-o-meter: zero.

Coulda been so much better

Premise is great: What really happened in that lightly roughed in chapter of log entries from Bram Stoker's 'Dracula'?

Instead of doing a solid job of exploring the concept - think Dan Simmons' period-perfect envisioning of the fate of the lost Franklin Expedition of 1849, in 'The Terror' - what you get instead is yet another half-baked "re-imagining" of the material. It's a brittle house of cards built on characters that not only don't exist in the book, but are wildly out of place in the setting - a merchant ship at sea - and period of English history. Just weak wish-fulfillment. Meh.

Not really woke. Low IQ Nonsense for Gen Z and The Chinese Market.

Only real woke is all the diversity checkboxes in casting. This obviously is pandering to China with all the Chinese characters and half the movie in Chinese with subtitles. The acting is ok at best. The VFX are all over the place with some looking really good and others just laughably awkward. The writing though is just awful. Forget everything you know about the laws of physics and reality if you plan on watching this. This is fast and furious levels of stupidity that only a brain dead gen z could think is good.

Really bad after season 1

The first season was quite good except for the woke elements. Louis had a mystery to solve. We see new developments and interesting dynamics with Superman's family. After that, the writing gets really bad and doesn't give Louis anything to do or mysteries to solve which makes her and several characters around her the most boring tedious uninteresting scenes of all time.

The wokeness is largely feminist drivel. In season 1, we are expected to believe John Henry's daughter is the one who designed his suit and that she traveled back in time to follow him, just cause? This ends up being the problem with the show in that almost every scene MUST contain a woman in it. The dialogue and all the decision making is driven by women. Superman, the most capable being on Earth, makes none of the decisions without Louis deciding for him. It cuts short scenes between the two brothers and what could have been entertaining comical or even interesting dialogue in favor of introducing John Henry's daughter mid scene to spew tons of lackluster lines.

Later in Season 3 wokeness gets even worse and more toxic. A boring storyline about breast cancer. And a toxic relationship where the guy who gets cheated on is expected to apologize to the girl who cheated on him?

That's really the problem with the show. Too many women and it does nothing interesting with them past season 1.

They need to introduce new characters, and cut out Lana's whole family, newspaper editor, and please for the love of all that is holy kill off Sarah Cushing.

Again, season 1 is a 4 out of 5 maybe, but after that I give it a 2 of 5. Even season 1 has a decent number of skippable scenes. Seasons 2 and 3 are almost entirely skippable and unwatchable. Honestly, the show doesn't know what to do with John Henry (black iron man) either and he should've just returned him to his time at the season 1 finale. If they were going for hard drama, any soap opera does it better.

Post-apocalyptic Paris is gay

It was dangerous for me to venture back into the Walking Dead franchise after having abandoned both The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead due to their going woke. And in the third episode of "Daryl Dixon", there is already a drag queen. I get that they were going for a Saddom and Gamora vibe, but it just seems wrong for the zombie apocalypse. Also, Paris in this timeline is not very white; oh, actually that's true in our timeline too.

Before that, nuns defeated zombie-hardened street thugs in pretty much a fair fight that was sometimes hand-to-hand. This hinted that woke writers might have been given this show to run into the ground.

Another thing I don't like is the tired trope of the psychotic thug who wants to chase our hero to the ends of the Earth over a perceived insult, like Ahab after Moby Dick. Because of this and the nuns (and I didn't even mention the functioning kid society), the show comes off as cartoonish. Yes, The Walking Dead was based on a comic, but it was not cartoonish in the first seasons.

And as hard as they try with acid zombies, kid zombies, and so on, zombies have been played out and lost their effect, if you have seen a lot of The Walking Dead.

The IMDB rating of 7.8/10 might not be organic, or it might be from throwing in a drag queen to get automatic 10/10 votes from the alphabet people. I think it deserves a 5/10, which I will round down to 2/5. RIP Walking Dead franchise!

Typical Gender Reversal Woke

This exact movie has been done many times before this time with the typical gender reversal. The male lead is a needy overly emotional complete bumbling idiot. Female is a the usual 'badass female' role with tiny 5'6 120lb lead manhandling 6' male and overpowering and throwing large men threw the air. The acting and dialogue are horrible. The music and soundtrack are so out of place and awful. The action scenes are laugh out loud comically bad. Best to just avoid this nonsense.

Super Good, Kinda Woke.

When someone says "woke", they usually refer to some badly made progressive stuff, which this show kind of has sometimes. Except the representation is super good and realistic. Speaking about good and realistic, the characters are enjoyable and "quirky" but they all have a goal (or a journey) and they all try to complete it in a way or another. The action and overall theme is fantastic and the music is good too. The villain is one of the best villains to come out of Disney, period. Such an imposing presence, and a great schemer who never backs down. Really recommend watching it, 4/5 (the only problems I find in it is the maybe too quick pacing of Season 2 and the seldom wokeness, but considering they got shortened, it makes sense as to why).

Typical feminist tropes

I know this movie is attempting to highlight the absurdity of modern wokeness, but it does so only from the "protagonists'" view. I'd say the Old Dads are more the antagonists. In the environment they live in, thier viewpoints are canceled out by the sheeple's acceptance of wokeness out of fear of getting canceled themselves, making them look like they're in the wrong for not boot-licking the DEI narrative that Hollywood loves to cram down our throats (again, out of fear of being canceled). Also the film doesn't take a look at it's own 3rd wave feminist elements. Throughout the story the men are painted as dinosaurs, out of touch, toxically masculine and in need of change just for being men. Have you ever heard of a husband getting mad and making his wife pack up and leave their home and children? The day this happens and no one freaks out, women will have achieved equality. I'm guessing they don't want to be equal if they have to suffer what men do. What was Burr thinking?

Delightful

Not woke at all. Panned by critics, but generally loved by the public. (Hmm, maybe a correlation there.)

Released in 2016, it's one of very few movies in the last decade that I thoroughly enjoyed. I think the movie should have started at the point when Aurora (Jennifer Lawrence) wakes up from space travel hybernation, but that would have radically altered the perspective and the final effect, so who knows?

Remember long ago when Jennifer Lawrence came out of nowhere and was being pushed as the most beautiful woman in the world in every publication? Yeah, that artificial promotion annoyed me, and in retrospect it was probably due to Harvey Weinstein. Jennifer probably paid the iron price.

What if the movie is actually referring to Jennifer's fate? Like her character Aurora, Jennifer Lawrence was presumably seduced into a position that made her feel sick, but she perhaps eventually grew to love her abuser and to enjoy the paradise that she was forced into, ultimately choosing to stay in that situation. If that was the director's intent, then damn, maybe it deserves a 5/5, but I'll conservatively give it a 4/5.

Not even a token woke character

Surprisingly not woke. But does come across as a bit "strong, independent female" though.
