Presence of D.E.I. in TRON: Ares

I just watched TRON: Ares, and I have to say, I didn’t mind it at all actually, I’d give it a solid 7. I definitely recommend it if you've already seen at least Legacy and know the basic plot of TRON. Now, the question is: is it a "woke" film?

It does feature some D.E.I. elements, like Black and Asian characters, but it feels more like ticking boxes without much depth behind it. I don’t think it’s fair to label the film as “woke.” If anything, I’d say we should direct our frustration toward the investors who demand these inclusions in order to get funding for the project.

At the end of the day, I’d recommend watching it without stressing too much about those elements. Sure, they can be a bit annoying, but we can’t boycott a movie just because it had to conform to external pressures to get made.

I didn't notice anything really woke. There's been a CIA female director at the time this was made so I don't see that as woke. This is so
far removed from the book that I don't think comparing it is even worth it. The acting is pretty good but for some reason I just couldn't
buy the actor cast as the main character. I'm not sure what it was, his acting is fine he just didn't seem right in the part. I would say this
is an average movie at best other than the terrible implausible writing. So we have a nervous socially awkward CIA employee whos only job
is in the basement working cryptology and deciphering code. But suddenly he is an expert analyst whos able to put together a complete comprehensive target package on a group of terrorists. How did he know how to accomplish that much less get access to the entire CIA database with out setting off any flags? He spends a short amount of time in crash course training and is shown to be completely inept at pretty much everything other than some skill with IEDs. Than the next minute he's in the field successfully evading a CIA agent trying to stop him and seems to be an explosives and IED expert. He's setting off elaborate timed and remote control traps yet never tells us how he is getting the materials and setting up the traps. There just magically there and go off without a hitch. He seems to be an expert hacker as well and somehow appears to still have full remote access to the entire CIA computer network. He just morphs from inept computer nerd to top tier field operative. The book wasn't perfect and had problems of it's own but at least they had Charlie as an amateur with a lot of luck and help on his side to accomplish his goals. It's not a terrible movie
but it requires some major suspension of disbelief.

I'm no investigative sleuth

Those Internet sleuths on Reddit won't have any trouble figuring this thriller out in a few seconds. It reads like a Netflix Lifetime Movie. I'm kind of surprised at the lack of woke propaganda in the movie.

But. We do have to obligatory super duper mixed race couple to deal with. At least they don't hop in the sack or make out and stuff and David Ajala is a cool black dude since he's from England and all that. They kind of dislike each other and keep their distance.

The books I read are usually classics, so I had to ask AI if the original boyfriend was black or green or what, but AI says that is unspecified. AI likes to make everyone happy and joyous, but if that is the case, I guess we have artistic liberty to change stuff around and make the boyfriend black. You know, like all modern films do.

Watchable

Other than the eye sore forced diversity among background characters there isn't much. Likely because the main characters are based on real life people so they didn't have what to do.

Woke trash remake

The first few episodes started off fine. But later episodes turn out to be woke trash with political preaching as usual

Woke free, very little action and a great story.

This is based on Robert B. Parker's character, Jesse Stone, an alcoholic, disgraced Los Angeles police detective that gets a second chance as a small town Chief of Police in the east coast town of Paradise. That's pretty much where the story from the novel ends. The book was good. The movie is good. They just don't tell the same story. In my opinion, Selleck plays his best role with the possible exception of Matthew Quigley.
The whole series is heavy on story and light on action. It's slow, but not in a bad way. Jesse solves crimes with impressive, yet realistic, detective skills.
I could write the same review for every movie in the Stone series. According to IMDB, Selleck is working on the next one. I hope so. These movies are binge-worthy.
On another note, this was the second movie of the series, but, being a prequel, I recommend starting with it, and then moving on to Stone Cold, etc.

Had to see for myself.

I was almost dissuaded by this site from watching this movie. Being rated as super-woke is a strong statement.
There is definite wokeness in this one...
- Ethnic representation: Yes, Astrid and some others are darker skinned. This doesn't fit the history of the Vikings. It's obvious pandering to wokeness. It's annoying, but there was no agenda beyond that. No ethnic issues were addressed in the story.
- Women in authority: There were several women in authority. That is not authentic. Women were recognized in Viking culture as persons with rights, but not in authority. Again, historical accuracy was compromised in favor of wokeness. There was, however, some implied agenda on this point. Astrid was put in charge of the attack. She took charge and led the battle plan.
- LGBT: It could be said that Ruffnut and other female characters were somewhat masculine. There was no implied orientation otherwise.

I hope this is helpful for sorting out the conflicting reviews on this one.

Come on

This need to be a good rating site and I am not going to rate everything that has a tiny thing in it I do not like as ‘woke’.

The move is pretty good, yes, it has 1 gay couple, however, it is absolutely not forced into it, it is not obvious, does not put any focus on it, plus the gay dude headbutts the other one to death. I mean, they are not suddenly getting a ‘special’ treatment.

So for me, overal, not a woke movie.
