Visually Beautiful, Flat Story

Not much woke here at least in the form of a heavy handed agenda. The film does a hard stop in the movie so the male Sasquatch can choose his own name… “Susan.” It’s meant to be comedy, but it’s meh and there’s some they/them pronouns thrown around for good measure to set up the joke. It just falls flat.

There’s a great bit of chatter about evolution more as an evolved way of thinking rather than in a missing link sort of way. Look beneath the surface, you’ll see the preachy woke plainly. But if you watch this superficially, you can be entertained.

Like I said, it is visually stunning. Not heavy handed. Just dull in my opinion. Your results may vary.

Not a cell phone made movie

With so many absolutely terrible movies made by anyone with a cell phone and a few spare cardboard boxes these days, I had few expectations for Dog Fugitive. But, I really like dogs and Dr. Fluffy is a cute little pup. First on the list: Dr. Fluffy's voice is grating just like Stuart Little and my wife hates that mouse, so our pup didn't win any popularity points with her. The story is kind of silly. Like, everyone talks to Dr. Fluffy like she's human and completely ignores the fact that she's a talking dog. And she wears disguises and sunglasses and even robs a convenance store for a little while.

Some of the scenes really had me laughing for no reason. Dr. Fluffy sitting at the dinner table or in a lawn chair. She's actually quite talented. I want to know how they got her to stay still in some of these scenes. Anyhow, this is absolutely not a homemade movie with high school drama club kids acting. It ain't good either, but done well enough that I'd recommend it for anyone just chilling out looking for a stupid laugh. Unless you don't like Stuart Little.

All woke, no funny

There's not much to be said about this. It's just a woke-fest, unfunny, liberal agenda in movie format. Hemsworth destroyed masculinity in this one.

Avocado or Clam Dip. Are you marinading me?

These cannibal women are super weird. The movie takes a ton of sideways smacks at the women's liberation movement and the N.O.W. back in the day. Wow! Remember them? Hey. They're still around, eating granola and not shaving.

Anyhow, there's not much to say about Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death. It often borders on cringe but the movie is lighthearted enough for us to forgive them for it. Men are not food stuffs.

These awful action comedies are becoming a genre all there own. At this point I would settle for just average. For woke there's the usual
DEI casting, the strong, smart can do anything black female, the incompetent bumbling white male. There are some capable actors here but they are giving nothing to work with from this writing. Walberg's character is a little too stupid. This is a top tier secret spy agency that apparently is a 50 and up job. I mean 59 year old Berry is unbelievable as an active field agent and her stunts are laughable. She just looks awkward and slow in her action scenes. Even Wahlberg who looks more capable is recruited at 54. Really? These agents appear to know nothing about blending in and stealth as they all stand out like a sore thumb. Berry is like the geriatric terminator easily killing her way through everything in sight including hand to hand with multiple
larger younger men. Then a female villain just manhandles and beats up the much larger Wahlberg, the gets easily beat by Berry as she effortlessly picks her up and slams her down backwards in a suplex that I burst out laughing at. I will say the action scenes at least are done a bit better than these types of movies but it's still no enough and I gave up at 45 minutes.

After the full season...

I'm through Season 1. The lead role, Carol, was established to be lesbian in episode one. Her partner gets killed off within the first few minutes so Carol is by herself. There was a flashback in Episode 3 showing the two checking into a theme-hotel. There was no depiction of affection beyond the same kind of hug that sisters would share. Fast forward to the end of Season 1... Carol and Zosia, the representative hive-minder, engage in a lesbian relationship. By then, you could tell that was eminent. Add this to the growing list of great stories ruined by LGBT agenda along with Matlock and Lisbeth. They really let the story unfold before setting the hook.

The theme of this series is genuine sci-fi. The hive-mind concept is well presented. In short, everyone knows everything that humanity has ever experienced. Anyone can perform brain surgery, fly an airliner, or replace a broken axle on a truck. When you talk to anyone, you're talking to everyone. It sounds simple, but there's a lot to it. Rhea does a great job as the cynical Carol. She's kind of a one-dimensional character, but it fits. According to Vince Gilligan, the part was written with her in mind.

I won't be there for Season 2.

Had to find my bearings after starting this film

Now I remember. I started and may have even finished Terrifier and might not have even seen the second film in the series. It was kind of kooky film, but for some reason, I never categorically finished any of the Terrifier films, quite possibly because Jenna Kanell who, according to the Internet, is the great socialist, ecofeminist (WTF that is), vegan lesbian, bi-sexual or whatever we have these days actress, sporting the short man-boy haircut.

Even after posting this review, I just couldn't place how or where I knew of Jenna Kanell. I really knew a lot about her, except that she was this big lesbian socialist. Then it hit me. I must have surfed to a non-lesbian related website that featured her and she's downright gorgeous without the awful haircut. Why do that to yourself? Fine if you're a woman who likes women, but we humans kind of enjoy looking nice, right?

Anyhow, I got to the part in Faceless After Dark where Jenna is in the sack with her Asian girl lover. Bluuch. Poor Jenna. Partisan politics stole her beauty. Wait. Aren't socialists inherently ugly? Like they spent 10 years in the gulag? The scene here is pure propaganda since no healthy man will find that a sexy one. Off you go.

An emotional downer worth a re-watch

I wanted to re-watch Paris, Texas for a while now since I remembered that I liked the film, but none of the plot. Must have watched it a long time ago. It's an emotional downer, for sure. Not much to be happy about, but a whole lot to think about. Zero films today are made with such subtle - and not so subtle - flaws in their characters and with an ending that's not completely ambiguous. It's a great film that provides enough to think about without falling into the film-school scholar or, worse yet, hipster pontificator, zone. Paris, Texas is worth the re-watch.

I don't believe there is anything woke here. The casting diversity doesn't seem to be out of hand with the population ethnicity of New Zealand. The acting is great the humor is on point, well written and delivered. I found it one of the funnier movies I've seen in a while. It's a little on the cheesy side but it's a 2011 rom-com what do you expect. There is a nice balance where sometimes it goes right to the edge with a goofy scene but doesn't cross that line where it becomes to much and turns into stupidity (like a lot of modern comedies). A soundtrack mostly by Queen with an unexpectedly hilarious end credits sequence as a bonus to wrap it all up.

This is one of those dark comedy crime drama movies where everything is a comedy of errors and coincidence. It's pretty middle of the road as far as these go. It's not really very funny though. The acting is ok but it's one of those movie where everybody is an idiot and keeps doing the stupidest things possible to keep unnecessarily escalating the situation. It's all get a little annoying after a while and everything starts really stretching the believability. I was getting pretty bored with it by the end but it's not the worst movie of it's kind. As for woke there is the now required mixed race couple and selection of DEI casting including the female POC detective. It also seemed like all the male characters where portrayed as betas or morons and just a little dumber to the slightly smarter females. This includes the sister brother leads where the sister has a family and is successful while the brother is single and a complete failure and loser.

woke elements:

All out of gum

Much as I am tempted, I can't bring myself to rate this one a 5.
Carpenter is the king of 80s B-movies (except maybe for Buckaroo Banzai), They Live is a cult classic, but it definitely suffers from pacing issues. Although they are idiosyncratic to the 80s. As is utter disregard for trigger discipline. And for reloading.

Rowdy Roddy Piper is the original wrestler-turned-actor (Hogan and Andre never turned), and does a decent job delivering the lines. So does David.

The movie itself is a weird mix of action, sci-fi, thriller (so, usual Carpenter fare) and social commentary. Speaking of, the anti-consumerism message is still very much valid, and does not come across as woke to me. I mean, corpocracy is as far from free market as can be; it's basically Mussolini's modern fascism barely rebranded.
The script does take a jab at 'free enterprise', though.

Quite possibly a must-see for those who haven't, but it mostly made me want to rewatch Escape From NY (soon to be a documentary). And The Thing. Russell is simply better than Piper.
