Intense!

This movie kept popping up as "Recommended for you." on streaming services. I finally watched it one day when I didn't have anything better to do. I'm glad I did. It's gritty, action-packed, suspenseful, and vengeance driven. The SS Guard should not have messed with this dude! I think there's a sequel hitting the theaters soon.

Better than the reviews suggest

This was a clever story. Sandler and Hoffman played their roles to perfection. I've seen this movie on a list of "Sandler's worst movies." I can't come to grips with that. First of all, this is fantasy. When Max figured out that he had a supernatural power, his first thought was, true to human nature, self-indulgence. After he wrestled with the burden of responsibility, he set out to make things right. Movie rating, or any art form, is subjective. So, subjectively speaking, I recommend this movie.

This is a really enjoyable movie

No woke stuff here, just a classic story with classic-style humor and solid, straightforward filmmaking

I'm absolutely not ashamed for enjoying this film, Bri-Bri

I like Kevin James and Alan Ritchson and there's absolutely nothing to not like about Playdate. That's my opinion and I say it should be yours too! It's just a silly movie full of great music and Reacher plays his part as Jeff awesome.

Am I left wondering questions about my existence and what it all means in this universe? No. Did the film trail off into an open-ended conversation about Bri-Bri and Jeff's trepidatious relationship? No. Did Bri-Bri have to iron out family issues to become a better man? Well, kind of, actually, but no.

I hope they make a sequel. Hell, they can just call it "Playdate 2" for all I care. The Mama Mafia was classic. Just a fun film with zero ambitions other than being silly and fun.

I took the ending to mean the sequel is eminent. I'm looking forward to it.

Outstanding movie

Every aspect of this movie gets 5 stars including casting, acting, directing and, probably even the grips. Colonel Winter glorifies war, having never actually participated. General Irwin has been there and understands the tragedies of battle. The two clash when Winter becomes the General's warden. Not much is said about the crimes Irwin was convicted of. Over the course of the story, Irwin helps a prison population to rediscover honor and self-worth. They learn that war isn't a game, but, when it's necessary, the discipline and honor of a soldier is vital.

One of a kind series

I remember when the full season was available in the early days of HBO streaming. It was probably my first TV binge. I couldn't wait to see what happened next. The character development and chemistry was outstanding.

Dark humor made surprise appearances often. There's a full array of characters you love to hate, or hate to love. I'm not sure how they did it, but they made this entertaining without glorifying organized crime.

One of the best things to say about this series is that the knew when to end it. It stayed interesting up until the final episode.

"Perhaps a 4/5 woke rating would be worth a few words to explain?"

Unrealistic funniness.

This movie breaks new ground. At PG-13, the f-bomb was dropped a few times. The physical humor is clever. I did mention unrealistic, didn't I? This is kind of like a live action genre of things like The Simpsons, Family Guy or South Park. If you like that kind of comedy, you'll enjoy this movie.

Halfway through episode 2... some Woke boxes checked.

This started out with a couple of major woke flags:
- The protagonist is black with a white wife.
- Episode 2 had a monologue rant in a 1692 slave ship that had some post-slavery agenda. I'm not defending slavery in America's first century. That is an atrocity that was ended with the blood of many Americans. I agreed with slave traders being burned alive on a ship in the middle of the Atlantic. This rant mentioned 300 years (to 1992) including being shot by police and deprived of human rights, etc.

Episode 3: A deal killer for me. A homosexual sex scene was pending. One of the participants walked into the room with full-frontal-nudity. His partner was sitting on the edge of the bed in obvious desirous anticipation. Click... no more. On to reruns of The Sopranos for the night.

CAUTION: If this was MPAA rated, it would have a hard time keeping R. It really pushes the edge. Perhaps crosses over. In the first 3 episodes, there were three full-frontal nudity shots and a dick-pic. The sex scenes were beyond MPAA - R.

There was also a lesbian sex scene in episode 3. It was brief, but there nonetheless.

If the wokeness presented as an agenda, I would've maxed the scale. It's just incidental and edgy from the minds of the woke.

The acting is great. The story is interesting. I really wanted to see where it was going. I may read the book.

Woke and feminist ideology

Paramount+’s Castaways delivers stunning visuals and tense survival stakes, but its heavy-handed feminist lens undermines nuance: capable men like the pilot and soldier are reduced to cowardly gammas, while “boss girl” leaders face zero accountability for reckless calls. Woke ideology dominates, sidelining balanced storytelling.

This is our CGI and AI future

God. This movie is awful. We see in the first few minutes how absolutely terrible the CGI is. Car chases and explosions in the 80's, when we all had to actually blow shit up, were just so awesome. And here's our CGI and AI future: bubblegum chewing "artists" at their computers over Dar Robinson.

And let's spend a majority of the film watching truly distasteful characters. Way too late for the father's redemption the unicorn should have spilled his guts a few seconds after they met. It's not particularly woke, but so funny now that we have evil, disgusting, rich and unlikable characters, they're all white (except the scientist types, I guess).

I can't remember if I like Jenna Ortega. I didn't like the remake of Beetlejuice. She seems alright and the film kind of highlights her, and she's cool enough for that, despite her not being a "pure heart" or whatever, more of an angsty teen. And I liked the St. Vincent song at the end (let's talk woke right there!). I can't recommend this film.

I have never heard of this director before this. While the movie is in English it's country of origin is listed as a joint production with Netherlands, Norway and Belgium. The story is a travelling Magician books a night in a hotel and the next morning he finds he's trapped inside a maze of corridors and tries to find his way out in an increasingly weird environment and strange occupants. This is one of the most oddly bizarre, weird and strange movies I've seen in a long time, and I loved every insanely crazy second of it. This is very reminiscent of 80's 90's Gilliam, Lynch and Cronenberg. It reminded me a lot of a twisted dark Alice in Wonderland. The cinematography and sets are excellent with great acting and an incredible performance from Crispin Glover. While there is humor I wouldn't really call it a comedy. I would say it's a mix of Sci-Fi and Fantasy. This will definitely not appeal to everyone and I am probably in the minority on this one but if you enjoy any of the directors I mentioned give it a try and be prepared for one hell of a twisted experience.

Babysittin' kids with a twist

A review on IMDb says Night of the Reaper is best watched as background noise, and I kind of agree. It's quite slow up until a little over the half way point and for some reason, I didn't much care for the youngish actors / actresses (Jessica Clement) in the movie. Don't know why.

I am on a winning streak finding films with unnoticeable or zero qualities of woke these days, without even reaching back to the 70's. None of that here. I mean, the plot isn't bad, it was made well enough; I find Night of the Reaper just not too interesting. I will however, recommend it to watch if you've got nothing better to do.
