NPCs will hunt you down

"The Hunt" is a controversial, political movie released during the runup to the 2020 US election. The genre could be labeled "gore-comedy", and although I don't usually like such films, this one is hilarious and anti-woke as well.

You must understand sarcasm and satire. This movie is not woke, quite the opposite. Granted, in 2020 President Trump tweeted, "The movie coming out is made in order to inflame and cause chaos." I can understand him being sensitive about the negative potential, but the filmmaker was on our side, I believe.

Mild SPOILERS follow.

There are literally a thousand barbs thrown at liberals in this movie. One example is a white liberal saying, "White people, we're the worst." You had to be there, but it was clearly a joke at the expense of self-hating white liberals.

True, the film does make fun of an apparently insane conservative conspiracy theorist, but in the next instant proves him correct! At the time I didn't realize it, but in retrospect I see that this porky, properly paranoid character represents Alex Jones.

Betty Gilpin's character, Crystal, reminds me of Lauren Southern: high cheek boned hazel-eyed doe-eyed tomboy blonde conservative with a body to boot. Just Canada was changed to Mississippi, to keep it safe, and anyway she's Southern, after all. Lauren Southern is a cute baby fur seal that the liberals and governments figuratively clubbed almost to death, and yet a fighter, like Crystal. Even when Crystal feigns innocence, this still seems like Lauren.

Another character reminds me of Donald Trump, Jr. The final boss-lady, played by Hillary Swank, could represent Alyssa Milano or AOC. I tend to think Alyssa, because AOC ain't that crazy. Whom did I miss?

In July 2020, Scott Adams famously tweeted, "Republicans will be hunted" if Biden wins. This film was released a few months earlier, in March of 2020. Coincidence?

Four years later, during the 2024 campaign, President Trump was the victim of assassination attempts. And of course Republicans have been hunted in a variety of other ways, like lawfare against Michael Flynn, Donald Trump, and the J6ers. I believe the film was intended as a warning, not incitement. It is the legacy news that has encouraged the hunt on conservatives.

This is a super-based movie. I'm gonna give this 5 giga-chads up and 0 down-cucks. If you enjoyed this film, then you should also appreciate the liberal lambasting in "Lady Ballers" and the Polish show "1670".

There is a communist conspiracy to create NPCs

"The Manchurian Candidate" (1962) is a work of art, unappreciated until more recent times. The film deals with highly political issues, but it is not woke.

Keep in mind, this is the original black&white one. The 2004 remake with Denzel Washington struck me as poop.

In the film, we see a communist version of MKUltra. While the effects may seem absurd, we should not underestimate the impact of a lesser form of brainwashing: the relentless repetition of fabrications by the mainstream media. When the media compares President Trump to Hitler, it is sending the message "kill him", over and over. Some weak-minded individuals were brainwashed into attempting to assassinate Trump during the 2024 presidential campaign. That is my take.

Let me recount my personal experience with being brainwashed. My high school history teacher started the class every day with a 5 minute story where the lesson was "don't run for the bus". 40 years later, I do take the bus sometimes because of where I live, but when I need to run for the bus an invisible force grips me and often wins. I now realize my teacher's real lesson: repetition will brainwash you.

The film mocks Senator McCarthy with a caricature. So is the film trying to say the whole Red Scare was silly hysteria? I think the intended message is only that it went too far. The director, John Frankenheimer, explained, “It really dealt with the whole idea of fanaticism, the far Right and the far Left being the same thing, and the idiocy of it.”

Interestingly, the film had severe difficulty getting greenlit for production, because Hollywood execs were worried about offending the Soviet Union, hmm. (However, they were not concerned about showing a plot to kill an American presidential candidate, hmm.) Ironically, President Kennedy himself had to reassure Hollywood that the plot was kosher. He was assassinated a year after the release of the film.

Today, we see hard evidence of infiltration of America by Communist China. Senator Dianne Feinstein's chauffeur was a Chinese spy. Representative Eric Swalwell slept with a Chinese spy. Depictions of Mao decorate the offices and rented properties of Democratic congressmen.

More personally, decades ago my white-owned contracting company lost its NASA contract due to Affirmative Action to a Mainland Chinese man who did not speak English and whose staff consisted of one person, a homosexual hiring manager who had won the title of "Mr. S&M San Francisco" one year. I heard he subsequently hired almost 100% gays for the NASA contract positions. It had been perhaps the most elite and important research group outside of private industry, gutted. This is why NASA can't have nice things anymore.

Is there a globohomo conspiracy to undermine American politics and science? Our reality reminds me of the Chinese TV show "Three-Body" (or American "3 Body Problem"), except with the Chinese being the subterfugers, trying to derail the progress of America.

The original "The Manchurian Candidate" is not food for thought - it is a frigging banquet!

Generic Woke YA Dystopian Junk

Climate change environmental fearmongering. A lot of DEI casting. Her male friend/ possible love interest leaves and becomes 'pretty' and completely changes and ignores her, she is rescued by a seemingly lesbian admirer and just forgets her childhood friend in like 10 seconds and becomes best friends with the character. Her new love interest is of course a black male. Black trans head of the pretties is played by a mentally ill trans actor. At the beginning she says mirror make me pretty and its just her in professional air brush makeup and contacts. The uglies are just actors without makeup and the pretties are full professional hair and makeup. That's literally it. It's all surface level shallow bs. The acting is ok is suppose with some passable green screen backgrounds. The story is nothing new, and its all been done before in a dozens of YA dystopian books and movies. The action and stunt scenes are awful while the CG is low budget garbage (the bungee jacket scene followed by the hoverboard scenes are laugh out loud bad).

Insightful and inciteful

"Am I Racist?" is a snarky look at DEI and the views of the Left. It is refreshingly rabidly anti-woke.

Maybe Matt Walsh will get better at this in the future, but especially in the first part he just came off like an asshole. It is a very fine line when you want to act like an idiot and have people believe you, but not so much an idiot that they see through your act. Matt went too far and blew his cover in one of the first segments. Borat he is not. Sacha Cohen is better at the art of stupid.

Still, Walsh is successful in exposing the bizarre, racist views of Leftists and how disconnected they are from the experiences of black and white average Americans, even in Mississippi.

Walsh also exposes the grifting of DEI "experts". He paid about $5K just for an on-camera interview with one black woman DEI "expert" who was laughable. He even gets into the grift himself at the end, making a couple thousand for spewing DEI nonsense to a room of paying students. I think software engineering is the wrong profession for me, LOL.

"Am I Racist?" is worth a watch for the insight with a side of comedic value.

Blatent LGBT agenda ruins a great show

This American copy of the UK version has a great premise. The only issue is the gradual culturing of a homosexual relationship between two of the ghosts. It blossoms into a full blown romance. The UK version has something similar but it's more of a series of small quips rather than agenda. I recommend passing on the US version.

The woke starts slow and builds

The wokeness is mostly subtle over the first few episodes. Most of the cases involve greedy corporations exploiting poor black folks. White males are predominately either incompetent or nefarious. One of the running plots in character building is a lesbian. Her coworkers encourage her to pursue a same-sex relationship with a lesbian IT tech. As much as I like Kathy Bates and the basic plot, this one has an agenda.

A fun, yet somewhat shallow, whodunit comedy.

A fun, lighthearted, whodunit series where every case gets figured out Pirot, holmes, Dupin, style. Carrie Preston brings this good natured, character to life. The stories are mildly interesting with the bad guy being revealed Scooby-Doo style. (Yes, I did it! I would've gotten away with it if it weren't for those meddling kids!) It's basically a female version of Monk but, instead of OCD, it's loud colors, large handbags, and no sense of personal space. Enjoy, but don't expect too much.

I am not entertained

I am still a fan of Scott’s. Well, was, until very recently. I even trudged through Prometheus. And Covenant. I’m a masochist. I deserve a good spanking.

Scott’s always had a situationship with historical accuracy, at best; see Last Duel, Napoleon. But now he’s gone and ghosted it. And slept with its mother. In its own bed. Live-streamed on Twitch. Because why not.
Female legionnaires? Zombie baboons from Hell? Gladiators riding rhinos shouting lasers out of their arses? (whose arse is up for debate). Football? Seriously?
To be fair, female gladiators had been a (rare) thing, because why not? Gladiator games, especially into the 3rd century, were pretty much American wrestling, if a fair tad bloodier, but mostly kayfabe. So, yeah, women, for the same reasons.
Except by the purported time of this movie, they had been banned because morality.

Washington is a pro, as usual, but out of place. The real-life Macrinus did manage to briefly claw his way into power despite his non-noble birth. But he couldn’t have done it with a black skin.
Pascal plays himself, as usual, so, Eternal Eunuch. Despite the hefty run time, his balls don’t drop. Also, why is he everywhere when that kind of money could hire an actor? And he’s a Roman general, too; who were well-known for general foppishness. General of the Emo Empire.
Maximus Redux is, well, present. He does a fairly good job of shouting while looking like a wet, miserable dog. And breathing, also. He breathes. That about wraps it up. But his character benefits from Chosen One Powers. Surprisingly, he’s not female.
The rest of the cast is better than Pascal, which is neither difficult nor enough.

So yeah, black-washing, female empowerment, so-called progressivism, and heavy recycling of the previous plot.
As anything with Pascal in it, it’s anti-male, smash-the-patriarchy, and much ado about nothing (literally; in Shakespeare’s time, ‘nothing’ was slang for an absence of dick). Polar opposite of the original.

Seats were stiff. Popcorn was crap. An evening wasted.

Edit: regarding the omnipresence of xir Pascal (no gender assumed), rumour apparently has it that it owes to his overt political pandering for the Party of the Ultimate Good (PUG?), but also to his checking of diversity boxes (ie: non-white, non-male) while being "white-passing".
The sheer and very literal racism of the morally superior never ceases to amaze.
