Pha-Q woke's Reviews
Death of a Franchise
DEI casting. Female POC is the typical feminist badass. Aggressive, snarky, smug and unlikable in general. Also looks like an 80lb skeleton. The island with the 'villains' is of course all male except for the previously mentioned female POC who is of course the only good character. The 'good' islanders are of course all female except 1. This is by far the worst in the franchise. The acting is mostly horrible. The story is just completely nonsensical. The VFX range from decent to awful depending on the scene. The heat vision no steals directly from Predator. The real problem though is almost all the kills are offscreen. In fact you hardly ever even see the creatures, they have very limited screen time. Worth watching only for die hard fans or if you just must watch the entire series.

It Keeps Getting Worse
Some DEI casting again. While not woke it also peddles climate change propaganda. The acting here is not great and the story makes no sense.
All continuity to the franchise goes out the window. Kennedy once again is just annoying and the dialog in general is terrible. The jokes are unfunny and bad. The inclusion of the Val character as the daughter of Val and Ronda from the original is interesting but unnecessary and her expertise in graboids and weapons training makes no sense at all and would seem more at home as Burt's kid. It's weird and quality in general really takes a hit in this one.

It Starts To Go South In This One
Mixed race love interest, comment about racism. Main white south Africans are evil poachers while the black natives are good and virtuous. Woke is starting to creep in at this point though its largely ignorable. The acting is ok with some bad in there. The FX are a step up and the creature redesigns are good but it's a little weird to completely change
their characteristics and basic designs. Also the Travis character is just awful. He is walking pop culture spouting meme. The most annoying irritating character in the franchise. The blood and gore a well done and the story isn't bad. If you were to remove the Travis character it would be about on par with the other sequels. Also the actor playing him is 45, so why is he desperately trying to act like a 20 something hipster? It's pathetic. The dirt bike finale is laughable. Still worth watching for fans despite this.

Different But Still Not Bad
No woke. Interesting take on the franchise. Better FX than the third one and the humor still mostly works. Some of the acting is not great. The story doesn't make much sense and breaks some of the previously established lore but it's still a decent watch for fans of the franchise.

Decent Third Attempt
No woke. About on par with the second one though in my opinion the better of the two from story and character standpoint. The humor is still pretty good and the acting is good by most but there are a couple of not so good actors but they have limited screen time. The CG however is pretty poor and doesn't hold up well.

Pretty Good Follow UP
No woke. Good enough direct to video follow up. Some of the fx aren't as good but the acting is still decent and the humor mostly works.

The One That Started It All
No woke. Great 90's monster movie with some comedy. The humor is actually funny. The acting is good. No CG just some good practical
gore fx. Must watch for creature feature enthusiast.

Lives Up To The Hype-Mostly
Nothing woke. Anytime a movie gets so much hype it rarely lives up to it. However this one actually does. Great acting and story progression are well done. This is a little mis-marketed as an action movie though. It's not at all, in fact there is very little action. It's more of a drama, thriller and a really good one. This can be a difficult movie to watch but it is an important story and needs to be told. My only complaint would be the inclusion of the final jungle rescue. While the story for the most part stays very accurate to the true story this part never happened. So why add it at all then? It feels out of place to the rest of the movie. The end of the island operation actually felt like a good conclusion to the story. I never understood why filmmakers feel the need to add on to true stories events that never happened when what did happen was a great story in itself. It's still a great movie and a story that people need to be aware of.

Keaton's Great, Everything Else Not So Much
Asian female police detective is smart and capable while all men around her are morons who she talks down to. She shames a fellow officer for using the term 'guy' instead of inclusive pronouns. Hollywood just can't write actual good female characters. She is the typical woke version, snarky, nasty and just unlikable. The pedophile is of course a nazi white supremacist. In fact pretty much all the police officer characters are pretty badly written and badly acted. The story is well done and directed and all the scenes outside the police are well acted. It's a shame this is brought down by DEI and woke casting. It's still worth watching once in
my opinion.

But Why?.......Just Why?
No woke. A straight up remake of the 2008 movie. Why? What's the point. The acting is ok but the main couple aren't very likable
There are no real scares though, and only a couple of kills that are very tame and no gore or shocking moments. This could of almost
had a PG-13 rating other than a little blood and some language. The main characters continue to do stupid things over and over. The villains are supposed to just be people but seem to have magic powers of some sort as they always know exactly where everyone is at all times and are able to just teleport behind people. In the middle of the forest,
in open areas, without making a sound. Teleporting villains is a major sign of bad, lazy writing.
